Default Factory '95 Alarm

So my car came without any keyfobs, but does have the light / sensor in front of the shifter, the control box, hood switch, and horn. The horn was not installed when I bought the car, but was loose with car. PO removed the horn when the aftermarket lights were installed. I fixed that.

So I bought a 3-button remote. I put the chip from the remote into the control module, and got the two blinks from the light by the shifter. Remove chip, reinstall in remote.

However, I get nothing when I press any of the buttons on the remote other than a blinking light on remote. I already put in a fresh remote battery.

From scanning some previous threads, it looks like if I had an open switch, I would get three chirps. Both door switches, and the hatch switch work activate the interior lights. I shorted across the hood switch to see if the switch was bad (no difference). I don't have a fuel door lock. I can lock / unlock both doors from outside using the key, so the powered door locks are functioning. I don't have central door locking on the console.

Before I spend the afternoon with the ETM and the pin-out on the control module connector looking for which switch is staying open, any suggestions?

I just did mine today. Had to do it twice for it to take. Make sure you dont turn your key pass the on position and then turn the ignition back off before removing the chip and placing back in remote.

Thanks. Just came back from the garage, and randomly fixed it (or it fixed itself). I was frustrated and mashed the program button in the module without the chip in it. Then it worked. No idea why. Maybe there was a step with the ignition key I missed, I didn't see that in any of the programming instructions.

But at least I don't have to screw with the key anymore to unlock / lock on a daily driver which is kind of annoying, so I will chock that up to a success, and one step closer to fixing all the DPO issues :-)
