Default New Engine

Well something in my ti went... not sure what it is yet we are having it looked at but it came down some major issues with either the transmission or engine but anyway. My dad was thinking it may be worth it to get a new engine because a new car would be so much and we got the car originally for so cheap does anyone know of a good place for an s50 engine and transmission as i need both, I've seen a few on craigslist and ebay but I wanted some other input thanks.

you're from norcal right? i think the ones you see on craigslist are S52

also you can reuse your existing getrag tranny.

edit: actually just saw one possted today. seems to be a good deal since it has a fresh rebuild

yeah I'm from norcal, and s50 or s52 doesn't matter which ever is cheaper and my miles are getting high so i'd prefer to replace the engine and transmission at the same time also I'm considering getting a rebuilt engine from this place in rancho cordova but I'm still not sure.

Aaron;

If you are looking at http://www.bmrparts.com then run away fast... Terrible service and they will do anything to avoid a return. I when there once for some basic parts, and what I heard from the staff as they were fielding calls was horrible. I left without buying anything and found several other places within 100 yards who were much better to deal with...

There are at least a dozen BMW dismantle shops in Rancho, find someone who will stand behind their product.

what year is your car? anything below 96 is OBDI. if i recall your car 95 a 95 from your previous posts

if you car is OBDI it's much easier to swap an S50.

S52 are for OBDII. it can be done also but you have to source out several parts to convert the engine to OBDI electronics.

What's wrong with your engine? If I were you, I need to check what's really wrong and try to fix it. Let's assume you will replace with a used engine and you don't the status of the donor engine. The seller will always says, they are selling a good one but are you sure you are buying a good one unless you remove from running condition car. For me, buying a used engine that you don't know the status is a gamble, rebuilt one is OK.
