Default How much did you pay dealer to replace regulator?

I need to have both my window regulators replaced. I HATE working on the windows, so I'm thinking of just dropping it off at the local BMW dealership. For those of you that had the repair done at a BMW DEALERSHIP, what did you pay?

$340 at a dealership in MA. I think I had it done previously at a dealership in PA for $260-300.

And about seven more times under warranty.

as you may know, the regulators are riveted, meaning to reaplace it, you must drill it out and add bolts. that can make the cost go up. if the regulators arent totally Fed up, it is possible to just have the arms replaced, so you dont have to drill it out. it cost 130...but it was the local mechanic...but im sure the dealer could so something similar.

if the regulators have been replaced before, then they are already bolted in, meaning its really easy to get it off

Mine are original, so looks like I'll be drillin' rivets...I guess I'll be doing it myself.

Replace the rivets with bolts. Seems to last a little longer. Think I'm using M6 brass ones.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!!!

The regulator is the arms. You can't replace the arms, you can replace the regulator. If you're doing it yourself you might try straightening the arms, replacing the broken sliders, lubing the track the sliders run in, and making sure the rubber channel insert is glued in place and the channel isn't broken. There used to be a sticky about this somewhere. Please don't use brass bolts. Buy (4) M6x10mm bolts, nuts, and wave washers to replace the rivets.

Try here: http://www.understeer.com/window.shtml and here: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2484 and read the whole thread.

well thats weird....my local mechanic said he did that so he didnt have to drill the whole thing out. ive straightened mine out before but it was still shaky and failed in a few months....so far my window has been working perfectly smooth and no shakiness...oh well whatever he did, it worked!

one of mine was previously replaced at the bmw dealer, so it was already drilled out...so i can replace that one and just bolt that bad boy it! but the passenger one is still riveted in

If your mechanic charged you $130 and you still have rivets, then all he did was probably replace the slider/clips, bent the arms back, buttoned it up, popped a cold one, and waxed creative as he was writing up your bill.

Of course these days that's likely to be only 1.25 flat-rate hours which isn't necessarily a bad deal if the window's working. He probably realized the new regulator is just as crappy as the old ones so why bother.
