Default Throttle cable tension..

K so i took off the plastic part that covers the throttle cable housing to paint it (another dash of colour for the engine bay!) It seems theres quite alot of slack in the cable..Should this be really tight, any slack at all? If it should be tight how do u tighten it?
Cheers people

There is some slack in it... You just have to make sure that the inner cable moves in relation to the outer jacket and the rubber grommets should make sure that happens. The easy answer is does the car idle properly at 0 throttle and rev properly at WOT?

The cable should have about a millimeter each way of 'wobble' if you move it side to side with your fingers. It is important that the cable does not place any tension on the curved cable ramp, or the idle can be a bit weird.

(With the engine off) have someone press the pedal to the floor. You should NOT be able to move the plastic ramp any further by hand from under the hood.

If the cable seems right at 'idle' but needs more pull at WOT, try to move any floor mats that may be under the pedal. If there is a pedal stop on your car, you can adjust that a bit as well. If it' still is not working out, you will have to replace the cable (about $70.00).

With these guides, you should be able to get the cable right. If it is very loose, you will never get WOT from the pedal, and the four needs every bit it can get!

Wide open throttle.

On an OBD1 car it is easy to tell if the throttle is going to WOT by checking the fault codes...

What is this some kind of test?

You have electronic fuel injection. If the key is off, no fuel pumps run, so no fuel is pumped to the injectors which will not open; the throttle position sensor also does not work to tell the ECU, which is not powered up, to dump fuel which it cannot do. Also, the running losses sensor (which also will not open without power) is not getting any vacuum signal, so if it could, it would not allow fuel to flow either.

All you will do is open the butterfly valve in the throttle body.

This avoids revving the crap out of your engine with no load (never a good idea)...

If you have replaced the factory parts with a carburetor, you MAY pump fuel out of the bowl with the accelerator pump, and temporarily flood the engine. But, if you wait a few minutes, it will evaporate, and you'll be fine again.
