Burgundy labels denote no EWS (or maybe EWS1 that doesn't cause problems.) Silver labels denote EWS on OBD1 cars. I was told to cut the wire to pin 7 on the X20 connector to prevent the EWS computer from trying to talk to the DME. Campaiar maybe because your EWS computer was still talking to your non-EWS DME, it was causing a problem. I had no problems, as I had gotten an EWS delete chip for my EWS DME and completely removed the EWS from the car. Andrei, you may just have to put it all together to see what happens. You may not have any problems whatsoever. -Paul | | | 02-05-2007, 10:20 PM | #18 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cincinnati Posts: 890 | Quote: Originally Posted by mooseheadm5 Andrei, you may just have to put it all together to see what happens. Andrei may get different results with NON-US parts. Its really hard to say, each swap story is a little different. Definitely worth it though... __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | 02-05-2007, 10:22 PM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Iasi, Romania Posts: 101 | Quote: Originally Posted by mooseheadm5 I think the issue you had was EWS (1/95 production on) to non-EWS swap. One question: I measured the 325 muffler and it's about 750mm and is far longer then the 400mm stock 318ti muffler. So I think that the 325 muffler won't fit and I need an aftermarket one. Did any of you guys managed to succesfully install the oem 325 muffler? | | | 02-07-2007, 03:53 AM | #22 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Charlottesville, VA Posts: 234 | Did you read the post above showing a diagram of what I did? Yes, it is too long, but all you have to do is cut the extra length from the straight part of the pipes and reweld them. I used an M3 muffler, but the process is the same for a 325 muffler. -Paul | | | 02-07-2007, 06:55 PM | #24 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Iasi, Romania Posts: 101 | Today we made a good deal of progres. I took the opportunity to change out everything I could while it was excessible. Starter Water pump All vacuum lines Fuel lines Themostat METAL Themostat housing All heater hoses Valve cover gasket Pilot Bearing Motor mounts I spent an entire week cleaning and inspecting things as well. Just curious, surprises can be really expensive. __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | 02-08-2007, 10:27 AM | #29 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: UK Posts: 197 | Looking good! Must be good have a lifter to work with. Was probably a lot easier getting the engine in and out. Definitely a good idea to look at the water pump, some of them had plastic impellers which are prone to failure. As campaiar said its a good opportunity to check things over. I did a full Inspection I, and just checked everything over to make sure it works. | | | 02-08-2007, 11:28 AM | #30 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Iasi, Romania Posts: 101 | I checked almost all the things above. It was good to do a bit of maintainance to the engine while it was out of the car. I finished my swap but the engine crancks but won't start. I tried to cut the pin 7 whire from the x20 connector but still it won't start. Can anyone point out what I am doing wrong? | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 2 (0 members and 2 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
