Hi all I am new to the BMW community. Just have a few questions. I am looking at a 96 ti that is for sale at a local dealership. My main question is, it has a 3 spoke steering wheel. Is this stock? Also the gentleman says that the engine was replaced with a salvage one. Is there any way to tell the year of the engine? Thanks for the help. | | | 12-01-2007, 01:17 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | uh, no...the steering wheel isn't stock. and i'm not sure about the engine question...anyone know? good luck...and take pictures __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 12-01-2007, 01:41 AM | #3 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | there are a number of possible three spoke wheels. i would have to guess it would be one from an m3 with airbag (number of people from the site have those fitted), but without pics, can't say for sure. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 12-01-2007, 05:54 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: rochester ny Posts: 71 | I want a 3 spoke on my car... want to trade? lol | | | 12-01-2007, 06:32 AM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Wheeling, West Virginia Posts: 3 | I'll try to get pix up monday when i go back home | | | 12-01-2007, 04:43 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | What I would be most concerned with in a car with a swapped engine is the true mileage. When the motor ECU and the dash odometer haven't been synchronized, there is a small clock that appears near the numbers. A carfax should give you the registration history for chassis mileage, but not for the new motor. Maybe the only way to do this is to have a BMW tech read the ECU. That should also tell you the year, but I can't be sure. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 12-01-2007, 11:01 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Land of the Vikings Posts: 2,700 | almost correct aceyx, if the milage has been adjusted via the inruments , but not adjusted in the light module or the ecu, the a red manipulation dot will appear the small clock symbol stands for periodic check. oil for oil change and insp. for insp. 1 or 2 if the wheel looks like either of the ones below, then its a sport or M3 wheel __________________ Vin Number decode and Retrofit Pdfs Available Free !
