Default Help!!! Identify this...is something missing???

My girlfriend's ti has been running pretty rough lately, but I thought a lot of it was just vibration from the resonator from the aftermarket exhaust from the previous owner...

Oh yea, dude had a bootleg intake as well, but 318ti.org member eurohb/bryan hooked it up with a stock airbox...

On to the problem: So I popped the hood to see what was all the ruckus was about and I noticed this sucking/intake noise coming from this thing im pointing to in the pic.
I dont know what it is, but I'm sure it shouldn't be sucking anything without a filter or having that outlet wide open like that...
Can someone identify it, tell me what it is, and what do I need to remedy it.
A filter? A hose that connects somewhere? A cap?

Thanks in advance

Sorry I can't answer you question, but I think the enfine would idle much better if you hold your hand over the end of the hose.

The thing you are pointing at is the secondary air pump. It is supposed to have a hose there that connects to the airbox and gets filtered air. It only runs for ~30 seconds at start up when the engine is cool to help emissions.

I believe part #7 is the hose you are missing.

There should be a part at the back of the air box where your wrist is (or to the right) that a hose will slide onto.

he might have an earlier airbox though, I'm pretty sure Bryan's ti is a 96 so it wouldn't have come with a SAP

you can always just get a little breather filter from Autozone/Pep Boys/Advance etc. and stick it over the end so it's not sucking up dirty air

Yeah, the airbox is from the older ti's. There is no place for a hose to connect to the airbox...and that damn output is soooo wide in diameter that I cant find a small filter to attach to it.

I guess Im on the hunt for a 97-99 stock airbox then...
