Post Head gasket finally gone.

In the process of replacing the head gasket, I was wondering has someone replaced the HG without using the cam locking tool? How critical is it?

Default Head is off

I pulled the head today, I do plan to make a holder when I reinstall the head. The cams seem to stay in place with no problems.

you could try posting or searching on bimmerforums.. there is a larger group of people in that forum and someone will be bound to know.

Its not a big deal, I was curious pulling the head, but its off now. Ill make a holder when I reinstall it, just to be safe. Looking forward to getting the car back on the road!

Hate to be master of the obvious, and late at that, but removing the head without the cam locking tool is not an issue. Installing it is imperative, though.

Head is back together and back on the car. Running like a top! Glad to have it back, its soo much fun to drive!!
