I riped all of them off on both sides, washed, waxed under them so the dirty strips wouldn't stick out for the time being. I dont want the original mouldings on the car again. I am planing to eventually get the M-tech mouldings, but for a while I have much bigger priorities to spend the 150$ on... So do we have any other options?, and custom things that would work for the time. I looked at lowes hardware for a rubber inch wide strip or something? Anyone have any ideas....??? My friend filled in the strip with bondo on his m3 track car and sanded it smooth before repainting his car. It came out great, you cant tell anything is supposed to be there if you looked hard. I love the way his doors are smooth, much more simple and clean looking. But for my Ti I prefer the more traditional M-Tech look.... | | | 11-07-2009, 02:49 AM | #2 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by lysergicsurfer ...I looked at lowes hardware for a rubber inch wide strip or something? If you don't want to spend $150 bucks for Mtech moldings, just buy some used base model moldings. Be sure to get new clips as well | | | 11-07-2009, 04:06 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Ghetto. I am hoping, things financial wise, start picking up around January or February. It would be after then that I could spare the money to buy aesthetics for my car. To me, keeping the car running, is ahead of spending money on performance, which is ahead of aesthetics..... I like the way my car looks right now, I just can't stand the stock moldings compared to the moldings on the front and rear bumper..... So for at least the next 6 months or so I will be driving around with them off, unless I stumble upon something that may work. | | | 11-07-2009, 08:37 AM | #6 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | So you'd rather spend 10-15 dollars on some weather stripping or something from Lowes and try to somehow affix it to your BMW's exterior, instead of just searching the forum classified section for someone parting out their car and purchasing that one piece of molding you need and perhaps a couple clips? Heck, most people parting cars would probably give you a stock base model molding and a few clips for a pack of smokes and postage. I'm glad he was able to resurrect that Ti and bring it back from the dead at least. haha No, I would rather drive my car without anything, than the stock moldings, I just hate how they stick out. All of the moldings on my car were looking bad, missing clips, and/or flapping and coming lose. I was just hoping for a temporary fill for a couple bucks so at first glance, it wouldn't look like something is missing. I use my car for daily driving as well as occasional Auto-x, HPDE, and fun. It is not perfect at all(needs new paint, bumpers, body work) right now, but it is slowly but surely looking better, it has a long way to go(money) but looks 10 times better than when I bought it(cheap, low budget). | | | 11-07-2009, 06:15 PM | #8 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Yeah, he posted a close up pic on bf.c. I'm sure you just need new clipsfor your current moldings. They're really cheap at the dealer or pelicanparts.com. While you may not like the way the stock moldings look, they look better than a bunch of holes on the side of the car or some home depot mod. I'm just saying, why not fix it the right way by installing the correct part? You can literally pick up a used molding and a couple clips/grommets for about 10 bucks(less $$$ and time that it would take to invent somethinig). Why not "temporairly fix" it with a real molding? Besides sticking out and looking ugly, the side moldings are there to protect your car from door dings, runaway shopping carts and such | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
