How do I reset it? | | | 09-01-2006, 03:10 AM | #2 | doesn't care about you. How do I reset it? | Re-check your connections. The brake light doesn't get reset. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 09-01-2006, 03:15 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Sometimes you need to drive thr car for several cycles before it resets. Assuming the sensor is connected properly. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 09-01-2006, 03:28 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: CA Posts: 104 | sensors are connected properly for sure. I drove 60 miles in it already, still on | | | 09-01-2006, 03:35 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Give it a couple days. Mine had to be reset by my mechanic. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 09-01-2006, 03:35 AM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Midwest Posts: 8 | the brake pad sensors are an open circuit. when that curcuit is closed (sensor touching rotor) it grounds itself out, therefore turning the light on. It is possible that there might be an exposed wire touching or grounding out keeping your light on. | | | 09-01-2006, 03:42 AM | #7 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Mine went off shortly after the car was on. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 09-01-2006, 03:43 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: CA Posts: 104 | should I try to disconnect/reconnect the sensor wires while battery is on? I changed the sensors when battery was unplugged | | | 09-01-2006, 03:50 AM | #9 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Midwest Posts: 8 | no. it has nothing to do with the computer. it is just a manual connection. there is no reset. if you where to take the sensor on the end off and connect the two wires the light would go off because it is an open circuit. when the sensor gets worn down, when your pads wear down, the rotor acts as the ground turning your light on. you have a ground somewhere between the sensors and the light.(exposed wire) | | | 09-01-2006, 03:52 AM | #10 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Midwest Posts: 8 | also make sure didn't install the sensors backwards | | | 09-01-2006, 03:59 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: CA Posts: 104 | backwards, meaning what exactly? They are specific. 2 different part numbers. if you flip them they will not work. On mine there was a lot of dirt and grime i had to clean out of the enclosure where it connects. | | | 09-01-2006, 04:05 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: CA Posts: 104 | that's what I did and I know that front/rear are different. I even compared them to the stock ones I had, new sensors looked exactly like stock ones Quote: Originally Posted by chaddy1976 Left front, right rear. I cut the the sensors off and stripped the 2 wires to connect them together. the light went off. thats how I know that there is a bad ground somewhere. | | | 09-03-2006, 02:53 PM | #15 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: House of the Mouse Posts: 20 | Aren't the sensors a closed circuit? I thought the light tripped when the thin metal blade was worn through breaking the circuit. That is why there are two wires instead of one. This is why the light went off when you joined the two wides together. The different part numbers are only because of the length and rubber grommets that hold them in place. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
