It's not a fuse I checked on that today. Any Ideas? Does the instrument cluster(speedometer/tach), window/sunroof switches, door lock button and cig lighter light up? If all of the above are dark, then your headlight switch has a blown dimmer rheostat and you have a short somewhere(usually behind the radio). BTW, welcome to the forum! | | | 02-07-2012, 07:21 AM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Seattle, WA Posts: 5 | Thank you! That actually really helps. Its just my climate controls, every other light works. So I guess ill take it apart and look for a short. Thanks! | | | 02-07-2012, 07:26 AM | #5 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | No worries. If everything else works, you don't have to worry about a short. Just change the bulb. You don't even need to remove the HVAC panel to replace the bulb, just remove the radio, but make sure you have the code if it's a factory radio. | | | 02-07-2012, 07:34 AM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Seattle, WA Posts: 5 | awesome, will do! | | | 02-08-2012, 12:54 AM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Seattle, WA Posts: 5 | So I checked and it was a burnt out light bulb. When I saw that it required a "BMW" bulb with built in holder, I was not amused. I took pliers and pulled the bulb straight out of the bulb holder. Looking inside I saw two leads, took a T5 LED, bent the leads for the T5 out to match the holders leads...pushed the T5 in firmly...and it works great! Very bright, and I doubt we will have to replace it again. I had several of the T5 LEDs for dash replacement which I had ordered from Amazon, at the time they were less than a dollar each. Did you at least use a resistor inline? Aren't those bulbs 12v? LEDs run at 5v. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 02-19-2015, 10:14 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: The Atomic City Posts: 318 | UPDATE: The bulb is still working. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
