Waiting for your valuable suggestions! | | | 09-19-2008, 12:19 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | I'm glad you asked this, I have been meaning to talk about it for a while now. When I fogged my airbox I purchased 3 turbonators (2 7/8"). I put one of them in the fogg tube before the airbox. The second one I put right before the ASC throttle body. The third I placed right before the regular throttle body. The key with turbonators is to put them at the most restrictive parts of the intake so that they force the air through. Now, in order to gain maximum hp and mpg, you must make sure to put each turbonator at 90 degrees from the previous ones. I tried 45 degrees but I found that my mpg actually went down but hp was through the roof. 90 degrees is a nice compromise of good hp (about 15 more, 5 for each) and better mpg, best I have gotten so far is 40mpg in the city, and thats with some spirited driving. Great mod, good luck with the install. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 09-19-2008, 01:37 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Ferndale, MD Posts: 462 | Actually, I found that in addition to the turbonators,( http://www.turbonator.com/) if you add one flux capacitor you can easily squeeze an extra 25-30% of efficancy, that is only if you do this after lowering your coefficent of drag and adding and extra gerbills under the hood. All joking aside, the easiest way to increase MPG is to drive like your granny. The second easiest is to remove all extra and unnessecary weight, like the dead hooker in your trunk. __________________ No trunk for the Junk | | | 09-19-2008, 02:20 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 09-19-2008, 02:38 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Ferndale, MD Posts: 462 | __________________ No trunk for the Junk | | | 09-19-2008, 02:41 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 09-19-2008, 02:58 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Ferndale, MD Posts: 462 | Well, you could always add the high lift wing. That way you don't have all of the drag associated with the down force. __________________ No trunk for the Junk | | | 09-19-2008, 03:08 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: albuquerque,nm Posts: 37 | So the turbonator does work? I always heard this was more of a gimmick. This is the first positive thing I have heard on them. Or am I missing the joke here? | | | 09-19-2008, 03:22 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | If you paypal me $5.00 I'll mail you an envelope full of special electrons that you can sprinkle into your tank to improve mpg. They are invisible, so you have to move fast. No refunds. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 09-19-2008, 03:41 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Ferndale, MD Posts: 462 | Well, a cleaning of the cylinders is always a good idea. I forget what forum I read it on, but someone used a fine sand to clean their cylinder wall. You just remove the filter and pour the sand right in through the intake. Afterwards you just flush it out with water and presto, 50 mpg and at least 10 ponies __________________ No trunk for the Junk | | | 09-19-2008, 03:41 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | You guys are brutal. He asked an honest question! Increasing your mileage can be done by going easy on the gas pedal, making sure your car is properly tuned, skinnier tires, upping tire pressure, reducing weight in your car.... and spraying it with PAM to make it more slippery. Sorry, couldn't resist. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 09-19-2008, 03:44 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Ferndale, MD Posts: 462 | Quote: Originally Posted by 96cali You guys are brutal. I gave an honest to god great website for increasing your mpg's. But if you guys really knew me in person then you would see that I can't resist giving the smartass answers. __________________ No trunk for the Junk | | | 09-19-2008, 03:45 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Ferndale, MD Posts: 462 | __________________ No trunk for the Junk | | | 09-19-2008, 03:57 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | Yeah, what's with this guy and his "The peanut - neither a pea, nor a nut...discuss" type threads? New cars are shutting themselves off at red lights and restarting when you press the gas. But, I still see people leaving their cars running when they are waiting for somebody or running into the hardware store. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 09-19-2008, 04:08 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Quote: Originally Posted by b.u.ti-ful But, I still see people leaving their cars running when they are waiting for somebody or running into the hardware store. | People still believe that this saves gas (versus restarting) and saves the starter. It's usually older folk and people who equate car knowledge with how long they've been driving. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
