Thumbs up New rear brake upgrade solution!

There have been threads here and there about using the 128i 300mm vented rotors on the rear and how this allows you to retain the e-brake. I did the math based on what measurements I had and it seems these rotors actually offer more swept area than the E36 M3 rotors. The problem for most people just comes down to the calipers and required adapter brackets, so a while back I asked a guy in Canada to make them and he finally did :

E36 318ti Big brake adapter kit - SRS concept - store
http://srs-concept.com/product/e36-3...e-adapter-kit/

Full disclosure, I have nothing to gain from this other than the brackets which I already bought and are on the way. But, I figured sharing this would make several of you happy.

Very nice. I've chatted with the owner of that company before. Nice guy and his products seem solid. I've used the caliper bushings they sell.

A question I have is what setup up
Front will retain a good F/R brake bias before pads?

The calipers used with this set up have a 40mm piston. The E46 330 and the E36 M3 have 40mm pistons in the rear calipers. While there are other factors at play, the E36 M3 or the E46 330 front brakes would be a good compliment to this set up.

This looks like a great set up and I will likely use it on my track ti but I do wonder of the added weight and parts cost actually come with a benefit on a street car, especially with an E34 rear caliper upgrade.

Default New rear brake upgrade solution!

Thanks Ed! These will be for my track TI I have either 330ci or M3 fronts and boosters available for install. I do run the E34 rears on my current M44 TI for track use.

Sourced a pair of rear 128i calipers this morning. It will get added to the Project list for the S52 when I upgrade the brake system for next season.

can anyone verify if the 15" wheel can fit over this? 300mm is cutting it close

Not likely. The 300mm front upgrade requires 16 inch wheels. I expect the 300mm rear set up would also have the same requirement.

I'm not so sure 128i calipers will work. It says:

-2 rear calipers from:
BMW 325CI 2001-2006
BMW 325I 2001-2005
BMW 325XI 2001-2005
BMW 328CI 2000
BMW 328I 1999-2000
BMW Z4 2003-2008

I haven't put these on yet (not sure when I will have time), but I got the carriers from a 325XI at the local pick a part for $15. For calipers I went with E46 M3 because I was told they were apparently much more rigid, and because the pistons are a bit larger which should shift the bias more to the rear to balance out the M3 fronts. I may add in an adjustable proportioning valve so I can dial it in.

I thought so too, but then:
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1024740

Looks like for the purpose of winter tires some e46 guys with a 2004 325i tried 15" wheels and needed spacers for the front but rear didn't have a problem.

According to RealOEM PN: 34216864056
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...&q=34216864056

That means we got : 294X19 Vented rear rotors that may fit under 15"

Also that means that PN:/ 34116864058

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...&q=34116864058

300X22 Vented front rotors worked with 20mm spacers.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Just checked and looks like he got the e36 m3 rear adapter too:
http://srs-concept.com/product/e36-3...e-adapter-kit/

Pretty sweet!

I would not call needing to add a 20mm spacer 'fitting'. I am also not sure it would actually clear, especially in the rear.

The cost of quality spacers and extended lugs or preferably a wheel stud conversion kit will more than negate any savings on tires (at least the first time around).

16 inch wheels are pretty inexpensive and so are 16 inch tires. That's the way to go if you're looking to upgrade the brakes to this rear set up and the 300mm front set up. Adding parts and spending money you don't need to to make 15 inch wheels sorta work would not be the path I chose.
