Canada Posts: 92 | engine making clicking sound My Ti is making a clicking sound, It sounds as though its coming from around the intake manifold. I put my ear up to the valve cover and listened for a while and have ruled out it being the valves that are clicking, or anything else from inside the engine. anyone have any ideas? | | | 09-27-2005, 02:46 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Tucson, AZ Posts: 290 | Eh, without hearing it myself, all I can say is check the simple stuff...like the oil in particular. It's probably common to have a small tick or click. As long as its not too serious. __________________ Vince Carknard 1995 318ti Active Hellrot, 16" 5 spoke, "Fogged" airbox mod, Stromung exhaust, Bilstein Sports, BMW sport springs, 3.73lsd, others... | | | 09-27-2005, 02:53 AM | #3 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | when does it happen? car cold/hot, etc ... __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 09-27-2005, 05:15 PM | #4 | Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Vancouver, B.C. For some reason i think bimmerboi is right and its just part of the car, just thought i would check tho incase someone else has had this and its something more serious. Thanks for the advice | | | 09-27-2005, 05:56 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | Is it a clicking fast? The idle air control valve clicks constantly. Start you engine, then shut it off, but only click the key back one position to shut the engine off (don't spin the key back all the way, like you'd do to remove it). Then quickly go up to the engine and it should be clicking away like crazy. Is that the sound? | | | 09-27-2005, 05:59 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Vancouver, B.C. Unfortunatley i am at work right now so i will try it out afterwards and then let u know. | | | 09-27-2005, 07:55 PM | #7 | doesn't care about you. Take a screwdriver and put the blade on each injector, now put the handle on your ear. You should be able to narrow down *exactly* where the tick is coming from. If it's not your injectors, start checking other places, eventually you will be able to narrow it down. Run some Z-Max fuel treatment with a tank of gas. That silenced my injector tick. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 09-28-2005, 06:39 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Vancouver, B.C. I will try adding some of that z max u mentioned and see how that works | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
