Default Starting to look for a Ti, been away from BMW for a while

Hi Forum !

I think I want a 318 Ti. Always liked them, never had one.

Past cars:
1977 733 i, stick, alpina suspension/wheels
1988 735 i, stick
1995 525 i, auto, lease
2000 Z3, stick
2002 Mercedes C230 "sport coupe" hatchback

Currently I have a 1985 Mercedes 300TD and would like to have a smaller quicker car that is reasonably economical. I enjoyed the Mercedes hatchback that I owned but it was not reliable and I don't want to invest that kind of money.

I would like to buy a car that isn't a project. I would love to buy a car that someone else has already done lots of maintenance on -- suspension, rubber, etc.

I would slightly prefer to NOT have a sunroof.

Not sure on auto vs. manual. I am OK with either.

And I'm willing to travel to find one for the right price....

I'm very active in a variety of Mercedes forums, and I have a small ebay business selling used car parts (mostly old Mercedes) that pays for my car hobby. (I'm srallen on ebay).

Finding a decent ti without a sunroof might be difficult for you because very few were made that way. Good ones are definitely out there, it just takes a bit of patience and some good research. I just bought my second ti the other day for 4k and sold my first for 3k, both of which are in fantastic condition. Id suggest looking through the forum first to see if anybody is selling one that appeals to you. Members on here generally keep much better care of their cars as opposed to other private sellers. Good luck with your search and welcome to the org.

Are you serious? no sunroof is rare?
You learn something new everyday
My 97 has no sunroof but I wish it did.

"No Sunroof" is rare on almost any US-spec car that is imported from Europe. It is the first option to be added. Most US-spec cars that have option packages will have Sunroof in all option packages. Perhaps the Canadian market isn't quite so sunroof-centric.

We have our share of sunroof fans here too.
My wife's has one in her 07 Saturn...
and being it's a Saturn the sunroof is it's only redeeming feature. LOL

every BMW I've owned (6) have had sunroofs and that includes one from 1970. finding one without a sunroof is extremely uncommon in the US especially when the car was initially sold in the south or west coast

Unfortunately my budget has become quite limited until May, so I'll be looking but unable to buy until then. IRS, Property Tax, etc.... It's better for me to get educated as much as possible.
