The S54 is mated with a 6spd, has dual Vanos, a lot more electronics to deal with, but it can be done...be prepared to spend a lot of money or just buy an e36 m3 to mod.

someone just asked a similar question on another forum and basically the response was it has been done(s54 in an e36, not a Ti exactly) but its very expensive and not worth the hassle

check out the engine swap forum on bimmerforums you'll see a very recent thread about the right way to do this. My guess is that it would be triple the $$$ to do S54 vs S52, double if you add in a supercharger or turbo for the S52. The S54 has electronic throttle among other things and the price of a bare engine is more like $4k-$6k vs. S52 motors going for $3k with all accessories. The most economical way is to pick up a wrecked car, take what you need cuz the little parts will kill you, and then part the rest. Or so I've read over years of fantasizing....... sigh.

Think there is someone selling their turbo'd S52 motor on ebay.

Good luck.

Stick with a S52 fantasy... You'll have all the power you need.

Theres one guy on bf.c with a S54 in his Granite Silver 325is, search SpasticDwarf over there. I think there is another guy over there also who is preparing to do the same swap. It would be sick in a ti, its all about money though.
