Went to the yards for a few items the white ti. Clown nose auto dimming mirror and wiring off an E39, clean rear view side mirror glass inserts off the same, a fresh pair of grill inserts from a E36 Sedan and a leather center armrest for the future OEM armrest kit console.

The ti I was pulling parts from at the yard has been crushed. Too bad, I was eyeing the OBD and cruise control setup.

Ran the new to me ti around for a bit and it runs remarkably smooth. No shake on the freeway, stops well, no weird noises and the A/C blows cold.

Ordered some speakers Familytruckster installed for the rear speaker replacement. Need to figure out if I can repair the speaker mounts that hold the rear shelf in place or not. looks repairable.

Ordered a rear strut brace from Cosmo Racing. Will report on handling improvement, if any, after I get it installed.

I purchased a front and rear tower strut brace for the new to me white TI. I also have a x-brace ready to install. My wife is already coveting it. She'll get it after the suspension mods, rear speaker install and a headliner repair.

What brand of rear strut bar did you get? I have a front brace from Sparco and the oem x-brace installed. You will feel a lot of difference.

Default What did you do to your car today? v.2014

Hi John, I just picked up a pair of inexpensive front and rear bars off eBay. M2 Manzo front bar, Toys auto rear bar. Not tracked, just adding some rigidity to this Active TI.

I have a Mason front bar on my 97 Sport and an unknown rear brand. OEM Xbrace underneath

It was a productive day today. Got a lot of minor things done with the car.

Replaced side skirt clips
JB welded the rest of my door panel posts
Started my rust repair/prevention project
Made a front underpanel out of coroplast

I got to finish up the rest of the underpanel tomorrow and buy some more supplies so I can start spraying the car for undercoat.

Finally got around to painting and installing the reproduction oem style rear spoiler I bought some weeks back. Started to tear into the rear hatch to get to bare metal to mount the spoiler with screws, then decided that it wasn't worth the trouble. The 3M mounting tape that came with the piece seems to be holding very tightly. Found the spoiler on E-bay; fiberglass, primed and sanded, mounting tape already installed for $150 from a company in Dallas.

Default Wifie's car

Worked on Wifie's 95 Active ti this weekend. She'll use this as a commuter car to save a little gas from the 540it.

Found lotsa parts at the yards
  • White nose and radiator support cross brace, plus all the various front end plastic components for the bumper and radiator paneling
  • Black passenger seat cushion to replace the split one
  • various odds and ends missing from the car.
  • Powerwashed underside and engine
  • Cleaned interior
  • Located alarm and ordered a key fob
  • Fixed passenger seat, started to figure out the drivers side seat repair
  • Sized up parts for a cooling hose and vacumn hose replacement for next week.
  • Picked up some Seafoam, Mobil one, Redline ATF, Redline 75/90W diff fluid and various filters for fluid changes this week

Replaced rear speakers with a pair of 4" Dayton Midbass drivers. They sound great!

installed temp fix for the broken parcel shelf retainers. A smaller clip would be a better choice, but I had these available. I JB Welded them on. At the end of the day, they work fine until I can find an unbroken pair of covers.

Installed a rear strut tower bar. I have versions of these inexpensive bars on my 97 ti and 325i and like them. Perhaps not track worthy, but they make for a fun street ride. I have a front strut tower bar to be delivered this week and a x-brace in-hand, likely to be installed next weekend if not sooner.

Installed the white replacement nose and radiator support bar. The ti had a fender bender at some point and the bumper, nose and radiator support brace had been replaced with red crooked parts, poorly painted over white. I found straight, original white parts at the yards with all the plastic radiator front shroud parts and lower splash guards. Also replaced the hood release latches as they were broken and kinda not working. Also picked up an inner fender liner for the passenger side. Total parts, including a black seat cushion, turned out to be $87.00. Since I was working the front end, I polished the weathered headlights to clear them up a bit. I had a spare set of 95 kidney grills on the shelf and through them on. Not clean yet, but better than the poorly painted and crooked looking white nose and broken grills. Now, I just have to find a straight white hood in good shape.

Zipped around for a few miles to check for any loose, flying off parts. She seemed to run fine for an old girl. The car that is, not Wifie...

UPS came with a delivery from the UK.

This will go into my white ti. While I like the other EVO 3 spoke, this one is growing on me.

Cosmo Racing rear strut bar arrived in the mail, and I have got it on now. At speed the back of the car feels more solid, and the steering is more responsive. The Cosmo brace is well contructed and well fitted to strut towers. I added lock washers to the set up to make sure the bolt connections stay tight. Cheers, John

Did a power steering fluid flush with new hoses, coolant flush and wired in my fog lights. After a week of waiting due to my rust prevention, it was nice to drive it again.

Installed a front tower brace and a aftermarket alarm Fob in my 95 Active.

The top brace does make a difference. It'll be interesting to see how much more then I install the lower x-brace. Need a few more of the expanding nuts that go into the subframe.

On unlocking the car I get three chirps. If I recall that means it either never set the alarm or the alarm was triggered. I believe it is the former. Doors/hatch locks and unlocks just fine, but I get no LED flash on the set alarm indicator. I'll research to see what's up there.

I replaced the broken glovebox with a working and intact replacement I picked up at the yards for $17.

Also went to the dealer and ordered a spare key. It'll be a few days.

It is slowly coming together...
