Default brake fluid

I need to replace my break brake fluid because the fluid looks really dark black. I just bought this car last month I'm wondering if the previous owner knew about this. Anyway, I'm wondering what's the reason why the fluid turn into black color? Is it because of the color of the fluid itself? Does it need to bleed out? Can someone help me on this.? I really appreciate it and I hope someone made a write up about bleeding break fluid.

thanks

1. It's brake fluid.
2. Interaction with the rubber hoses contributes to the usually amber fluid turning black.
3. Yes - bleed the entire system. It will require a 32 oz bottle of DOT 4 fluid to be sure all the old stuff is gone. It's only $5 so do it.
4. A Motive power bleeder makes the job easy. Have Santa bring you one!

If your brake master cylinder becomes empty, the pedal will go right down onto the floor and you will end up needing to bleed your brakes as well as adding more brake fluid. If you don't know how to do this, or anyone that does, don't take a risk - get a professional to do it for you. They will flush out and refill the braking system, making sure that it is up to scratch and roadworthy.
