Default E30 seats in a E36

Anyone try to mount a E30 seat into our E36 Compacts? I ask as I have a set of cloth E30 Recaros I want to use when I hear to the track our Auto-x. Much grippier deep seat with gripping bolsters as opposed to the sport seat in my Sport. If it is a direct bolt in, it would be a easier swap for track events.

I'd be using a four point harness with it as well.

Thanks!

Rich:

It's not a direct bolt in, as the seat bracket holes do not line up, but I don't believe they're that far off and with some ingenuity/creativity, you might be able to fab something up to make it work.

I've always wondered about using a Vader seat bottom on a standard E36 seat, if that would even work. They're probably not as deep as a the E30 Recaros but have relatively narrow side bolsters (at least for a 200# guy like me) and provide a lot of lateral support. Could possibly be an additional option if you can find a pair of vaders for cheap that need some work.

Rich, I agree with Zoner. It's not a direct fit and if I remember correctly you are less than a centimeter off on alignment. I'd have to look again at the rails and see if they could be modified or if you would take the E36 rails and connect them to the E30 seat frame with less modification.

Default E30 seats in a E36

Thanks guys, I'll check to see if I can take a E36 seat mount and see if the Recaro will bolt it.

I have a nice set of Vaders in one of my 97's and I find the cloth sports are grippier. The OEM Recaros, even more so with the deeper cloth bolsters.

Also curious... but additionally if anyone has had luck with aftermarket (or other OEM) seats? Seems to be challenging to find direct replacements in good shape (and while retaining rights to my firstborn).

Anybody?
