Post New guy loves his TI, needs mechanic in SA

I recently bought a 1998 318TI, it has 138K and it's in good overall shape, but it needs some maintenance. I bought the car because I know a BMW mechanic and he recommended the car. Now he's not talking to me because his cousin is getting a divorce from my sister-in-law?!

I'm addicted to this forum. My wife is getting jealous. I like to read all the posts and I'm happy to say that I've been able to make some minor repairs since I found this forum, but I'm not exactly mechanically inclined, I don't have that many tools, and I would like this work to be done soon. The car needs new brakes and rotors, new spark plugs and wires, new oxygen sensors, and new transmission mounts.

Please let me know if you can refer me to a good BMW mechanic in San Antonio, Texas. Thanks for your help. I look forward to being a part of this group and learning as I go. Please message me if you can help.

Welcome to the forum. Post some pictures of your car!

I haven't taken my car to a mechanic yet. Have been able to figure out everything myself so far. Thanks to this site.

When I was looking for to by a 318ti about a year ago I called a few different shops to check out a prospective car I was looking to by. I took it to this shop.

They quoted me the cost to do several things. Everything seemed reasonable. They seemed honest and straight forward. Didn't look down at me because it was a baby bimmer either.

Anyway, didn't end up buying that car and bought mine without having a mechanic check it out. So far so good

I have also gotten a few small parts from them also. If I need it quickly and can't wait to be shipped. They were only about 10% more than pelicanparts and were way cheaper than the dealer.

You should be able to tackle most those projects your self.

I have some tools and some space. Could probably help you out if needed. However, I am by no means a mechanic. I have done the brakes & rotors, cooling system overhaul, lots of small things.

Thanks for the link...I've never heard of that place. And thanks for the offer to help. I'd like to take you up on your offer. I would feel a lot more comfortable if I had an extra set of eyes.

i had very good experience at rhinewest, located on broadway just above 410, across from the airport. had my ti serviced there regularly for several years----very good diagnosing problems that came up from time to time. they have a website and will schedule appointments. well equipped to deal wih routine service as well as upgrade modifications that you may be interested in. good luck
