I really love the cali roof and especially now that it does not have any water leaks! | Yes, thanks for the tips! I'll seek to take pictures along the way for folks that follow us. I just repaired my Coupe's sunroof so the Cali is next. The temp fix I did helped, but on occasion, would still spin. Used the bobby pin to remove the cylinder and it took 30 seconds this time around. Last attempt on a 95. I could not get it to work. Works great now! Next item: remove tint on windows. 1998 & 1997 318ti Sport Schwartz II 1995 318ti Active Alpineweib III __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! All fixed and running beautifully. __________________ 1997 318ti 5-speed Moreagrün 1996 318ti auto Hellrot (retired) | | | 09-28-2014, 10:11 AM | #248 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: SF bay Posts: 183 | Go to bed!! | | | 09-28-2014, 11:31 AM | #249 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Globally Posts: 1,162 | Been debating hoe to tell the wife I bought another car. | | | 09-28-2014, 03:54 PM | #250 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Quote: Originally Posted by M-technik-3 Been debating hoe to tell the wife I bought another car. | At her favorite restaurant after most of the wine has been enjoyed... I purchased a used Jiffy J-4 steamer off of Craigslist to remove the tint off my 98 Cali. The tint was so bad it was hard to see out of at night. It turns out there was a tint layer on top of a tint layer. Two layers of adhesive had gotten wavy and totally distorting clarity. you can see the waves of adhesive and distortion in this shot. I tried to use a good handheld garment steamer and really made no real progress after 15 minutes. With this larger unit. It took all of 15 minutes to pull off the 2 layers/4 sections of tint. Finished it up with some spray on Goof-off to get the residual glue off. Less than 30 minutes start to finish once the steamer got hot. Not messy and easy to pull the tint sheets off as one continuous piece. Totally worth the price of the used steamer. I'll do the side windows later, after the game. 1998 & 1997 318ti Sport Schwartz II 1995 318ti Active Alpineweib III __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! Me too! Mine was my first BMW, an '83. Outstanding thick leather upholstery, though the horsehair padding and springs broke down - but the seats were re-buildable. Traded a double slider '72 VW panel van for it. Great car, loved that big six. | | | 09-29-2014, 03:37 PM | #255 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Calmloki - yes, my first BMW as well. Converted me over from Hondas and Fiats. 84 533i, 5 speed, over time I had the head and diff rebuilt. Rebuilt seats (still have spare seat and skins). The interior was pristine when I sold. That was my driving school car at Laguna Seca. Such a solid built car, yet comfortable, despite sport Billy's and Hartuge all around. Sad when I sold Max, but got a great price for her.
