What do you drive when the white stuff is coming down? | | | 12-12-2003, 01:41 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: Marion, IA Posts: 388 | Mine is in the garage for the winter. I am not taking that thing near the salt on the roads in Iowa. The old rusty 4x4 truck is better for that. | | | 12-12-2003, 06:06 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | Unfortunately my '88 Integra winter beater got rear ended this past summer and so was totalled. Nine years, 125K miles with her (185k total) I still loved driving it especially in the slippery stuff. The ti now has snowshoes on and I eagerly await the first virgin snowfall in an empty parking lot for donutfest 2003! ;} | | | 12-12-2003, 09:34 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Tucson, AZ Posts: 290 | oh yeah, 4 studded snows, 100lbs of sandbags in the trunk, and im set to go. this is my 3rd winter so far and i havent had any issues with mobility in the snow. sure i'd like a beater for winter, but for now this is all i've got. no complaints so far. __________________ Vince Carknard 1995 318ti Active Hellrot, 16" 5 spoke, "Fogged" airbox mod, Stromung exhaust, Bilstein Sports, BMW sport springs, 3.73lsd, others... | | | 12-15-2003, 11:17 PM | #5 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! I was freaking out when I woke up to something hitting my ceiling and found out it was Hail....that never happens here. I was staring at my car praying it wouldnt get damaged...it was a looooooong 5 minutes. We arent supposed to get these things in Florida....grr __________________ my new world | | | 07-02-2005, 07:12 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | Snow, Ha Hurricanes..now that is when I park in the "bunker" | | | 07-03-2005, 12:03 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Tracy, California Posts: 473 | Northern California No salt, no snow around here. A bit of rain in Northern California and that's about it. I drive it all year around. Got to love it! __________________ 1989 E30 325is 5s Coupe Zinnoberrot 1991 E30 325i Auto Coupe Schwartz 1991 E30 325is 5s Coupe Hellrot 1995 318ti E36 Alpine White III DASC (RIP) 1996 328i 4Dr Artic Silver (RIP) 1999 M3 Estoril Blue Metallic RMS Vortech SC 2001 325i E46 Alpine White - Sports Package (SOLD) 2005 E46 M3 Coupe SMG | | | 07-03-2005, 01:09 AM | #12 | Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Posts: 93 | snow sucks... i ran my ti this winter, and let me tell you, i'm not doing it again. i got stuck twice last winter. but, i did get pulled out once by a very cute girl with a dodge ram. the traction control performs as well as the minardi f1 team (they finished last in a 6 car race). i'm picking up an old s10 blazer for this winter and will let the real fun begin!! lol __________________ my pappy said, "son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin' if you don't stop drivin' that hot rod... bmw?" | | | 10-26-2005, 02:24 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Virginia Posts: 247 | I plan on driving the ti very sparingly this winter. This will be my first winter with it, but judging by how it handles in rain, I'm not even going to bother buying snow tires. I still have my last car, which is an 88 Nissan Sentra, it does pretty well in snow as it is front wheel drive. __________________ Silver 98 318ti Standard trans, Sport Package: 16" Stock Wheels, Foglamps, Sunroof, Heated Leather Seats, Bilstein performance shocks, OEM Sach's clutch kit, Dunlop SP Sport A2 225/50/16 tires, Alpine CDA 7894, Dual Rockford Fosgate 12" subs, Rockford Fosgate Amp, Leather Armrest, Replaced M44 engine with only 40k on it! http://www.geocities.com/evalha/bmwsmaller.JPG | | | 10-26-2005, 05:03 PM | #14 | Member Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Calgary, Alberta Posts: 89 | Winter Fun Well in Canada, winter isn't much of an option so short of buying another car, I will keep driving my 98 ti. I put winter tires on all 4 corners (BF Goodrich Winter Slalom) and it is the best handling car I have driven on snow or ice. The balance of the car and traction control make it an amazing ride on snow. Being rear wheel drive with the traction control, it is not the best accelerating car but it does get going, even on hills. The other thing is to learn when to turn off the traction control. When trying to get going in deep snow turn it off. Great winter car | | | 10-26-2005, 05:20 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | This is my first winter in Minnesota with it, so we'll see how it goes. I've got a full set of Blizzak WS-50s ready to bolt on, so I'm confident it'll be fine I don't have traction control either. Just the other day I bought a bundle of shinlges for ballast in the back, i'm guessing it weighs 50-60 lbs. ? BMW recommends up to 110lbs. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
