Default 318TI classify as an E36

I have recently purchased a bmw 318ti 95 i want to get peoples opinions on what i should do as my first upgrade for under $1000.

Does my 318ti classify as an E36? and would the parts be similar to a 325i and a 328i.

I am have been looking at this website http://www.turnermotorsport.com/
please let me know of any sites you might suggest for parts or information.
I have been thinking of and air filter or exchaust or even a performance chip

Also i am not very car literate and i would love a website that would explain to me the various parts and the pros and cons of each upgrade.

thanks

Sorry nothings that easy. Start doing searches here for "chip" or "exhaust" etc and you'll get a bunch of educated opinions. Check out the section on this forum of refering websites.

You can chip your '95 and get a few more horses out. Most people go for exhaust and suspension mods which can both be accomplished sub $1000. What to do first depends on what you want more of- performance, style, sounds, etc. Do you have a base, sport or ??

I have a base model I think. Does the sport model have a decal on it denoted the sport verison. I would like to have some bottom end power. I find the the car has pretty good top-end power (i.e. 4th, 5th gear) but not much pick up between 1 and 2 and 3rd. I am looking for performance handling and accleration with some style (thru front or side skirts.

The sports have wider side moulding with an ///M than the base and active.
Plus the front bumper is from the luxo M3 and the rear looks like an M3 minus the trunk.

Looks like you want what I want.

I added a new muffler, no performance increase.
Just bought a nice almost new limited slip diff, hope that helps me in the low gears. Then the next thing I think is a lightweight flywheel.

The flywheel and diff upgrades hopefully will give me what I want, and probably what you want too.

does an air intake provide more top end horse power or low end?
With a suspension upgrade what would i upgrade? the shocks, springs, swing arms??

What does a performance chip actually do? and does it result in more wear and tear on the engine and components?

If you do an air intake it must use a heat shield otherwise you will probably loose power. I don't know how much a CAI gives you but it sounds nice!

Suspension should be done in sets.
If you are replacing springs I would match them with the complimentary shocks.

Chips may cause a bit more wear and tear since your rev limiter is raised.

I've heard that the one at BMPdesign.com is good.

I've talked to a guy who works at BMPdesign,.... Chris... he said that chips don't really do much for our cars. BTW... the I-20 exit sucks over there. I spit on it.

Oh yeah... Chris owns a ti, too.... he's done a couple engine swaps as well.
