Default Paint Codes?

Hi,

I'm trying to buy a can of 'Avus Blue' paint from a UK based motor factor (I need it to touch up a spoiler that i've got which aint on the car)

They've got a paint matching system in store and can match up a can of matching paint or a touch up stick depending upon your cars paint codes!

Now I visited this store on sunday and told the guy that I wanted a can of BMW AVUS BLUE and he came back to me with 3 sets of numbers which came back to him on his system! These codes were for different paint finishes i.e. metallic, pearlesant etc. The codes were as follows:
3720
3720/D
3720/G

Dont know which one is which but anyhow my question is, where do I find the paint code on my car?

Is it hidden in the vehicles VIN code or would it be in the engine bay somewhere! I've had a look but cannot find anything similiar to the above codes.

Any help on directing me to the correct location of this information would be appreciated!

cheers albi901

paint code #'s are usually listed on the drivers side strut tower in the engine compartment. mine says "Shwartz II 668". however, i forget which #'s in the vin are the color code. it is part of your vin though.

Avus blue is #276

My 98 ti is Avus Blue and the code for it is #276,so that would be yours also.

Bavauto.com in the states sells touch up paint for $20.
