Default Easy, strong, light weight diff upgrade path

When working out the 332ti project car I realized I need to save all the weight I possibly could, especially the rear of the car due to parking it in the back of a toyhauler trailer, past the axle lines.....

Using a 168mm diff behind a 300HP S52 seemed a bit of a weak link but I found out from a very good diff builder about the Euro 3.25 LSD for the 168mm case that is far more robust than the regular 168 diff.

I had one built to handle daily and track use using 4 new new Porsche organic disks, new plates, seals, etc....it is a pretty rare diff but it alone saves 20lbs or so over a 188mm diff and is very strong.

I might not use it for a drift or drag car or do a bunch of hard core launches in it but I hardly do those things anyway, to hard on gear and overall not that much fun, except maybe drifting but way to hard on cars when you bump into stuff I am sure it could handle some hard launches, etc, I might not do it on slicks or super stick fat tires or at least more than a few times but then again, it might handle it all just fine.

It know it would hold up fine on extended track runs, in fact I planned to add at least a temporary temp gauge to keep an eye on it until I was sure not overheating, it so I would out a finned cover on it or add a cooler which is still much less weight than a 188mm diff.

By picking the proper gearing I needed, street and track, keeping the 5 speed ZF I planned to use instead of a 6 speed, stock size axles, etc......I figured I save somewhere from 60-80lbs which is quite significant.

So, there is a simple bolt in solution for those with more power that want to save weight, there is one for sale on this forum

a small case 3.25 lsd, good to know. and how much do they go for..? I almost went for a medium last year for 250. And that's a lot of weight not added, definitely a plus.
Also , I recently saw a local offer for for choice of aluminum or fiberglass bumper supports, alu was from a m3. I was suprised to see this as I have never heard anything about switching out these parts, don't know how much a weight difference this gives. Sorry it's in french, but says fiberglass bumper support is half the weight of oem e36

At least in the US there is an autobody parts company, I do not recall the name right now, they have great prices and that bumper support(technical name used most often) is around $20 or $30. I have one.

The 3.25 Euro LSD is usually hard to find, the one that is for sale took a couple of months to find then was rebuilt into a higher performance one, it is a bit expensive but would be incredible to use.

Finding another one might take some time, not sure how much they sell for.
