Default Cooling system rebuild - Form-in-place gasket points

Hi all,

Tackling this little nasty job. I didn't know such a well running car could get so nasty dirty. Valve cover gasket let go too. Rad was shot, so it was time to do the full cooling system rebuild. Car has 318,000 miles on it and purrs like a kitten - looks great too. So I'm motivated to do this right.

Where do I put Form-In-Place sealant (some call it Permatex Blue, some use HondaBond, Some Toyota FIPG)?

The pipe on the side of the engine didn't appear to have any. Neither did the rear.

Thermostat/pipe assy?
Water Pump?
Valve cover gasket?

Thanks in advance!

Peugeot, in my rebuild I put sealant only on the valve cover gasket "half-moon" corners (put it on the head, not the actual gasket). I _believe_ that is the only place that calls for it with all the parts you have off (I was doing the timing chain gaskets at the same time, so there were some other locations sealant was needed). Hopefully someone will chime in if I'm incorrect.

Thanks for the voice of experience there. I'm sure it'll be good. Can't wait 'till I finish. Wish I didn't work so slow!

Update: Followed advice given and all worked perfectly. Only place you need FIPG is at the half moons in the back on the valve cover gasket. Don't over-do it, but put a thin film with your finger (nitrile glove) and you should be good to go.

Thanks jca & Biolite!

Yup NEVER use sealer on rubber gaskets. Or O-rings..
