I was looking and looking and looking for an autoparts store that carried the damn things. They were like $27.00 or more. Found the Strong Arm 4287 at Amazon for a little over $13.00 a piece. They gave me free shipping and $5.00 off my order. Bought 2 of them for $21.00. Ahh can't wait to be hands free, and stop feeling like the statue of liberty every time I want to get something out of the back. Last edited by cali_guy_559; 12-12-2009 at 05:30 AM. Thanks for doing the research, it saved me a few hours. However, I spent some good time reading through all these posts and pricing on some Blazier struts. I opted to install one strut on the right side, since i figure I'll be using that hand to shut the hatch most of the time, and it works great. Not hard to close, doesnt fly up with force, just works great! | | | 05-15-2010, 05:09 PM | #108 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: N.SYRACUSE,NY. After that, you should be able to pull it out very easily. It's a ball system, similar to a trailer hitch. | | | 05-15-2010, 11:42 PM | #110 | Member Join Date: Dec 2009 Location: Ft. Thanx for the advice! | | | 07-12-2010, 01:44 AM | #113 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2010 Location: Southern ME Posts: 22 | I am a noob to 318ti.org as I just acquired my first ti. This thread was very helpful. I found the Blazer struts at Advanced Auto for $19 each. One concern I have read repeatedly is whether the Blazer struts are too strong for the hatch and other hardware. So I made a video of my hatch opening so you can see for yourselves.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQncv5L1mKk | | | 07-12-2010, 05:15 AM | #114 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | I can't get YouTube to work right now, but as long as you don't let the hatch "fly up" freely and slam, I doubt there ever will be a problem. I just keep my hand on the hatch So it extends gently. | | | 07-12-2010, 05:53 PM | #115 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! By replacing one (or only using one) you are essentially twisting the hatch every time you open it. This puts undue stress and wear on your hinges. Sort of like opening your car door while hanging out the window- it works just fine for a while... Anyway, do what you want; I just wanted to point this out to the newer members who don't necessarily realize that could be doing damage down the road. | | | 09-18-2010, 06:05 AM | #116 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2010 Location: Southern California Posts: 107 | Quote: Originally Posted by CirrusSR22 They are from a 97-01 Chevy Blazer / GMC Jimmy / Oldsmobile Bravada. 4 Door, w/ Lift gate. The Sachs ones are available at www.rockauto.com for $14.10 each, but with shipping the total was $34.88. | Got Sacks from RockAuto, works perfectly. Thanks for saving me some money. | | | 01-18-2011, 06:20 AM | #117 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Fiji Posts: 169 | Quote: Originally Posted by mikmet | This site is no longer in service! | | | 01-18-2011, 06:37 AM | #118 | Member Join Date: Dec 2009 Location: Ft. They are more stiff, so if you only get one It'll support it as if you had 2 of the recommended ones. | | | 02-25-2011, 04:25 PM | #119 | Member Join Date: Sep 2010 Location: hartford, ct Posts: 61 | still 18.99 from autozone for the Mighty Lift C95769. I'll have them in 3-5 business days. Thanks for posting this I'm glad there is a cheaper solution for this problem. I didn't want to take any chances and feel I got a pretty good deal. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
