Default Custom "Short" Shift Knob

I had an old knob from a junked ti and I decided to experiment a little with it...

Here is a before shot :

The stock knob is way too long to even look good .... So i decided to cut a piece off.

I started by cutting the threads off the leather, peeled the leather upwards and then I busted out my hacksaw and I cut off a 1" piece off the knob...

Then I removed the Shift pattern then I unscrewed the big screw and got rid of all the junk inside of the knob...

Now is the fun part ..... Take your drill and a 1/2" bit and drill a hole thru the knob, starting from the bottom opening...

This will leave your knob looking something like this :

Continued...... (6 pics rule)

After this step... go in your car...remove your knob (put in 2nd and pull out straight)... and then stuff this bad boy on your shifter...

It should look like this

Then get some heavy gauge solder or wire and roll it around the shifter inside the knob.... This fills up the empty space and adds a little weight to the knob.

Put your shift pattern back on and Voilΰ you have a short knob...

Here is a comparison of the 2 knobs

Left is Stock
Right is "Short"

EDIT : In my opinion it reduces the throw a little bit and I feel it shifts better and it looks 1000X better than stock...

is there any slippage..or spinning with the knob since there is no 'nitch' to catch it?

Not at all... it fits on the shifter very tightly... you really have to shove it on the shifter....

This is the main reason I did this, because my other knob was slipping...

Thanks for the comments guys.... Keep'em coming

Looks good the only problem is that now you have to move your hand further from the steering wheel to shift. More chance for error. That is why I took off my sparco knob and re-installed my factory knob. If you like it keep it though.

My Momo knob sits about the same height, and I love it.
