Keep water away from the alternator , ignition coils and the relay/fuse box.
I spray on an engine degreaser when the engine is warm and then rinse with water from a hose (DO NOT USE A PRESSURE WASHER) and then wipe with shop towels. A good degreaser usually removes all the grime and grit.
