Default M44 dasc work on m42???

What all is different on the m44 kit vs. the m42 kit? Is all the basic hardware (manifold mainly) the same?

it seems like the m44 uses the waterpump and alternator belt, while the m42 uses the ac belt?

Yes I am. I would be installing this on my e30 so i would not really want to switch to all m44 stuff but it would be more then possible. Do you know if the offset is the same for the early half v belt style and the late style? I sent Jim an email but got an auto reply that he is out of the office till monday

Maybe I'm wrong on the manifold so don't take my word since I've never seen a M42 manifold. I just assumed they would not re-tool due to the cost.

My error and I hate giving bad information. Sorry folks

Well i had planned on just getting all m44 parts but i realized that the harmonic balancer/ crank pulley would not have teeth on it for the crank sensor and would dampen at the wrong frequency.

the m42 and m44 use the same water pump pulley so i can assume that the crank pulley offset is the same and use a late m42 crank pulley.

I will get a m44 alternator and ac bracket.

Then i need the m42 (or m44?) fuel rail as well. I already have an m42 alternator and an AC compressor with the serpentine belt. Hopefully these will work. Then i need to bend the dipstick out of the way. (the e30 dipstick is on the front)

I will be awaiting a reply from jim at downing as well

Does the late m42 setup use the ac pulley or alternator/waterpump/power steering pulley? does it appear that the belt routing would still work without the power steering pump in place?

Is this the 1991 M42 with the single link timing chain? You should put the M44 in just to get rid of that (which may break around 200k or less)... as for the intake manifold, I think that changed between 1991 and 1994 sometime.
