I know air intake and exhoust on a 318ti are nearly to superb performance vise, but has anyone tried reducing an Air intake on a stock intake box? Does that help any or reduce air flow? Any ideas are welcomed.. z | | | 12-21-2013, 01:47 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | The ti air intake comes very well engineered for performance from the factory. You can read on this forum and on the internet about installing "cold air intakes" on ti's to improve performance, but the way I see it, the factory intake on the ti is a cold air intake, that is, air enters the system from the outside, not from underneath the hood. Enjoy your ti! John | | | 12-21-2013, 05:03 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2013 Location: Ithaca, NY, USA Posts: 147 | You mean like this? Yeah, people have tried it. It does nothing for the air flow, don't bother. | | | 12-22-2013, 01:18 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | Yep....and I believe that you also lose filtration with such aftermarket setups. | | | 12-23-2013, 06:45 AM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2013 Location: Lithuania Posts: 13 | Quote: Originally Posted by jca Yep....and I believe that you also lose filtration with such aftermarket setups. | I mean leaving the stock air filter box and all other parts as is, but shortening Suction Tube. Fig #11 on realoem: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...67&hg=13&fg=20 I do know the intake on 318ti is engeneered really good, just wondered if anyone tried cuting part #11 to shorten it. Thanks to all! z | Why would you cut it? The point is to draw cold air from outside the engine bay. They purposely made it the length it is to get it the farthest from the warm air as they could. Honestly nothing you do to it will make any improvements. Leave it as it is and focus your time on other items in the car. __________________ -Alex 1995 Bmw 318ti - Cordoba rot | | | 12-24-2013, 09:24 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | you could get the lower half of the airbox from a 92-95 318, it draws air from behind the drivers side headlight, also cleans up the engine bay a little by eliminating the intake hose running over the fan shroud EDIT: just looked at the realoem diagram you posted, seems like you've already got a '95 so ignore my advice, I'm going to agree with everyone else here and say leave it alone Last edited by tiFreak; 12-24-2013 at 09:27 PM. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
