Since the Z3's use a short tail and roughly the same wheelbase could we use the entire exhaust from one with any of the swaps?

The word around here is yes, with maybe 1 or 2 minor adjustments if any

Ah, so no one has tried it that posted anything specific about it? I have no issues ditching the cats in my soon to be S52 swap but I wanted an exhaust that will sound good and give me some power now with expansion abilities for breathing improvements on the motor.

Good. Did they use the full Z3 system from the motor back or just the cat back?

entire system, with minor modification. Or you can do the E36 6 cyl mid section to a 7 pipe, then a single pipe to a Z3 catback

That makes it easier then. I'll just buy a high flow Y pipe and a Z3 exhaust then. Its much easier to modify one pipe than the dual pipe system.

Just something to think about, the OEM Z3M exhaust is pretty heavy. There are some performance gains to be made with going aftermarket outside of exhaust flow characteristics.

I fabbed up this one. It is really light and bolts directly to the stock cat. I do admit it is loud though. The noise isn't for everybody but there are times when the I6 is music to my ears...
