If any of you have ever tried to turn the key after the car is already started, you might have hear the psuedo "grinding noise". I hear it immediately after the car starts up. It lasts for about 1/2 a sec. Any ideas? Thanks! P.S. No, I am not turning the key after the engine is already running. | | | 11-09-2006, 10:28 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Are you sure it isnt your secondary air valve/pump or w/e its called for the intake/exhaust? __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 11-09-2006, 11:06 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: NorthEast Posts: 91 | Couldn't answer you question if you paid me a million dollars. Not very mechanically inclined. The closest I can equate the noise to is how I described it earlier. Sorry! | | | 11-13-2006, 12:21 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Virginia Posts: 368 | Open the hood and locate a round black plastic air-pump housing on the driver's side near the intake manifold. Have someone start the car (cold) and listen or put your hand on the pump. If the pump is bad you probably need the valve that goes to the exhaust manifold, too. Of course it could still be your starter itself sticking. Both are common problems. | | | 11-13-2006, 02:04 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | I hear a noise for a couple of seconds coming from the black plastic thing on top of the intake manifold. Is this what you're talking about? Cause I have no idea what that sound is either. | | | 11-13-2006, 03:34 AM | #6 | Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: NorthEast Posts: 91 | Quote: Originally Posted by Phil Marx Open the hood and locate a round black plastic air-pump housing on the driver's side near the intake manifold. Like if you were to hold the key in the start position for too long. Sticking starter motor? I'm not bothering with it. __________________ '99 ti /Mtechnic, Schwartz II, Meyle Control Arms w/Full Metal Ball Joints, PowerFlex poly LCAB's, Pirelli P Zero/Nero 225/50/16, "the d-baffle"...... | | | 11-13-2006, 07:58 PM | #9 | doesn't care about you. I figure the starter will stop working when it wants to be replaced. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 11-13-2006, 09:19 PM | #10 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by DustenT Same here. I had mine replaced about a week later when i was on vaca. Now she starts up like a mean little car. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 11-18-2006, 04:59 PM | #11 | Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: NorthEast Posts: 91 | Quote: Originally Posted by Tyler Well my starter was acting up in may/june and finally crapped out on 10/3. If so, approximately how long after that did you starter finally give out? Last but not least, how much did it set you back? Just trying to plan ahead financially, incase it gives out. The funniest thing is.....it only does it on cold mornings. BTW thanks for everybodies input. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
