Default 2 DMEs fried from water getting into that little compartment. How do I fix that?

So I'm now about to buy my 2nd replacement DME because every time there is a heavy rain over night, water leaks into the DME compartment and fries the DME. I replaced the cowls on the bottom of the windshield where the wiper arms are as the previous ones were cracked and almost completely gone. Water is still somehow getting in through the top of that compartment but I don't know how or how to fix it.

I put the DME in a zipper bag and left it unzipped for heat dissipation just for precaution because I have a slight leak in the DNE compartment. I did not have time to fix it but It's been two years now.

Not a bad idea...I'll definitely try that out once my new DME comes in. Did you have any issues fitting the unit with the bag over it into the slot it slides in to?

Once you remove the battery and DME compartment rubber cover in the firewall, you will see that the compartment is sloped towards the front of car. I put the bag opening in the front and left it open.

Common on e36s. If you look on the firewall behind the engine, the rubber drains that allow rain to drain out of the hood cowl area, become clogged with leaves and junk. Early cars had one, later they got two drains. Rip the rubber drain spouts out of the hoe holding them in the firewall. Do not reinstall them
