Anybody know a good way to get the outer ball joint out of the strut/wheel assembly? My pickle for just won't quite do it. Thanks

Hit it harder with a bigger hammer and pry apart.

you can also reinstall the nut loosely, and whack the SIDE of the knuckle fitting that the stud goes thru. spray liberally with a penetrant (CRC, PB Blaster.. at least WD40) and give a few good whacks right on the knuckle.

Works EVERY time for me in anything from Hondas to Chevy cars to Diesel Full Size trucks..

It took me a loooong time to get it loose with the pickle fork. Just keep whacking, it will seem pointless but then all of the sudden it will just pop loose.

I feel your pain, I did mine a few months ago and had the same problem. I spent way too much time on one of mine. Good luck.

Default Don't use fork

Don't waste your time using a fork. I tried in vain to separate the ball joint using a fork. Buy a ball joint separator instead. It will save you time and do less damage to the wheel spindle.
