I was wondering how you guys managed to mount your battery in the rear hatch. Is it a custom job or is there some OEM pieces that can be used? Please include your battery specs and pictures of your mounts. I currently have a red top battery in the back but no way of mounting it. I've read about a small battery that fits in the cubby hole, but I also want to power a very small amp and sub. Would the 11lbs battery be good for a small system (10" sub and amp)? __________________ | | | 11-02-2011, 02:24 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Monterey, CA Posts: 770 | Last edited by dahamler; 11-02-2011 at 02:31 PM. | | | 11-02-2011, 02:26 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Monterey, CA Posts: 770 | | | | 11-02-2011, 03:31 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | Here's what I did. I can get the model number off the battery in a bit. The only modifications necessary to make this fit was the hole cut in the carpet for the positive cable, and removing the vertical "ribs" in the storage bin with a Dremel. The battery is kind of squeezed in there and is held in place by a combination of that squeezing and the two cables. There's no slack in the negative cable the way I routed it. Update: the battery is an Odyssey PC 680. I like the Odyssey battery. I'm going to look for something like that. Have you had any problems with it? I'd like to see what other setups you guys have. I'm curious to see how things go over the winter. Others have reported that the car needs to be driven at least once a week in colder weather to keep the battery charged well. I had to let mine sit for a couple of weeks this summer. My wife started it for me and she said it seemed like it didn't want to start right away but I'm not sure exactly what that means. I started it a week later and it was fine. I am pretty conscious about not using accessories much just in case. | | | 11-02-2011, 11:47 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | See, that's whats making me wonder about these small batteries. I want to power a small sub and amp to go along with it. I also use cell phone chargers and satellite radio... I like the way dahamler mounted his yellow top but I would like to keep the rear interior looking somewhat stock as the ti will be a DD.. __________________ | | | 11-03-2011, 12:38 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | My Battery box is perfect for the the stock big battery. It seriously has like millimeters to spare on every side. I will eventually put a smaller light weight battery in my battery box. Got it on summit racing and its track approved. It's bolted down hard and it's not going anywhere. Looks pretty cool and my sub fits perfectly right next to the box. Here's some ****ty iPhone pics and please excuse my filthy trunk. That's a pretty cool battery box. Doesn't look to bad...I want to look up the inside dimensions. Did it have a knockout for the cables? I know a lot of the members have the battery in the back. Show us your setup!! __________________ | | | 11-03-2011, 01:07 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | Yes it had knock outs. Came with a lot of hardware. It came with a bracket that locks the battery down inside the box. Came with a bunch of rubber grommets and stuff. Came with a vent tube ect ect. I am using a Bosch SLA battery that is spec'd for 2nd gen Miatas (99-05). Removed the plastic tray in that corner, and the battery fits perfectly snug into the cubby area. As for power, never had an issue. Cranks the 6 cyl just fine, and never had any problems. I believe that Marv17 has the same setup as me and is running amps and more. IIRC, he has had no problem with lack of power either... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Battery sat for almost 1 year while I fooled around with my S52 swap. I finally started the engine this week and the battery worked like a champ. | | | 11-10-2011, 10:53 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | Can you guys post up some battery specs (make and model/part number)? I bought a Bosch 51R-450B last week. It doesn't fit quite right in the cubby hole. I'm going to return and get the one like James has...
