Talking Got my M50 engine!

Just come home from looking at my new engine. It is still in a crash damage car so i could hear it running. It runs mint. 70K miles and full service history. Picking it up on saturday! The fun will start very soon. With lots of pics of course.

Gunna strip it down a bit at the weekend and clean it up. Nothing too major. Just to tidy it up a bit. It wont be going in for a few weeks yet as im away with work next week. Was going to get everything from the one car but he had already sold the cats and center section so im on the look out for one if anyone here in the UK is selling any. I work at a BMW dealership and looking at the service history of the car it turns out one of the techs at my place serviced it twice! Once in 1996 and again in 1997. Small world eh! Its a pre EWS car and mine is a 98 so does anyone know the best way to bypass EWS on my car? Do i need to remove the EWS box and bridge the relay wires etc?

if all my info gathered correctly you need to get a non ews ecu/dme (red label i think) and put it in the car then cut wire 66 at your ecu/dme its green

then it should be bypassed

OBDI engine+harness to OBDII chassis.

It rehashes itself, so dont get confused.

Cut #7 on X20 Main harness - Mine was Lime Green

Cut #8 on X20 Main harnees, attach to #1 on the X6031 harness - Forgot what color that was on my car, but it attaches to the Grey wire on the smaller connector.

Next steps are just for the X6031 Smaller Harness.

Wire #14, White and Black stripe must be connected to the Blue clipped harness behind the instrument cluster. All i did was run a wire from #2 wire on the Blue connector, for the cluster, to #14 on the X6031 harness. Not sure if i actually cut the line at #14, or just spliced it...im sure i cut and wired it to it.

Other than that, there are no other mods to the harness that i know of.

The 6cyl OBDI cluster will enable the Check Engine Light as well as the "Stomp Pedal" diagnostic that you can find on bimmerforums.

Well, Ive got it! He ended up leaving the gearbox attached to the engine which wasn't agreed in the price! !SCORE! Im surprised BMWs move with this engine in. What a weight. It ended up snapping the pivot bolt on the trailers suspension so a little Bodging was required. When that was fixed i towed it home. Time i got there the other suspension arm on the trailer had just about snapped clean off! Got the 413 red label DME, cluster, Exhaust with cats and radiator (seen better days but will get me up and running.) Starting the tear down tomorrow. Will take some pics and post them up tomorrow evening.

nice! what you should do if your willing is do a complete how to step by step motor swap.

pictures and detailed writing of what to do.

no one has done it yet and i think it would be a HUUUUUGE addition to the forum!

i plan on doing it once i start my swap if no one has done it yet.
