Default Coil On Plug Brackets

-Coil On Plug Brackets for sale!

I am selling Coil On Plug conversion brackets and hardware for the m42 motor

On the e36 chassis some wiring is required but it is not complicated. It is plug and play for the e30 m42.

The brackets are designed to replace the stock coilpacks with coils from the E46. The coils need no modification to the ECU.

M42club threads regarding the conversion:

http://www.m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=965
http://www.m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3698

-Details on the coils needed

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&hg=12&fg=05
that is the REALOEM link to the coils with the part numbers
they are from the e46 and they all appear to be the same.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...&I1.x=0&I1.y=0
here is pelican part's listing for the coils

FAP99.com has the Bremi ones for $44.87 each brand new

You can also pick up used ones from e46 owners who upgraded for $10-25 each

high performance replacements are available as well through most BMW performance parts dealers

part number is 12131748018

-Prices

The bracket is $70

Shipping is $5

Hardware kit is $7
it includes:
8 M6X1 cap screws
2 60 mm M6X1 studs
4 M6X1 bolts
4 6mm washers

BTW I stopped by my local hardware store and just the cap screws would cost about $7 if you bought them individually, and they didn’t even have studs.

so for the totals, $75 for a bracket shipped, and $82 for a bracket plus all the hardware. Or if you would like, $12 for just the hardware.

here are some pictures of the completed brackets, if you would like pictures of something more specific, let me know

this is the hardware included in the hardware kit

pictures of the brackets

*note the bracket that has the coils mounted on it has been polished and the ones that are being sold are not polished like the one that does not have coils mounted on it.
besides the finish they are identical

I can ship out brackets as soon as I get the money, so give me a PM!
Payment will be through Paypal, I will give you my Paypal address in a PM.

Cliffnotes: $82 shipped for bracket and hardware, effectively everything you need minus the coils themselves and the 4 connectors

Has anybody done a write up yet on how to change the wiring to work with a car that came with a coil pack using a single wire instead of the e30 wiring with individual coil wires? I've seen a lot of e36 people ask just what is involved in the wiring, but never seen a detailed write up.

I think the last time these were offered up here nobody bought because there is no good information on how to change the wiring.

Here's the thing, user red97tj on bimmerforums did the conversion on a 95 DASC 318ic.

I would do a write up, but I don't have a e36.

here is the link to the bimmerforums thread

I will work more to get better details.

Red97tj said he would do a write up but here is what I have for now.

each coil has 3 wires, 1 signal wire from the ECU, 1 12v switched, and one ground. The connector that goes to the coilpack has 5 wires, which are the 4 signal wires and the 12V that gets spit to all the coils. The ground can be put just about anywhere.

Here is a schematic of the wiring for the e36 m42

In summary, it is a very simple wiring job. You do not have to tap into the relay box or anything like that. Everything you need, save for ground, in in the connector.

Would there be interest if there was a plug-and-play harness available?

It would not require any modification to the stock wiring and would be completely reversible.

After looking through a bunch of pictures, it looks like the e36 m42 motors until ~95 have the coils plugged in individually, so it would be plug-and-play just like the e30's. The only ones that would require more wiring are the engines that have the coilpacks all plugged into the wiring harness with one round plug. Even on these engines, the wiring is fairly simple.

bump

any interest? questions?

I didn't see the other post about a wiring harness, I would be more interested if it was plug-n-play...

On my car there is 1 connector coming out of the engine wiring harness that plugs into the coil pack. Then, on the bottom of the coil pack there are 4 separate hook-ups for the wire plugs.

I have a 1995 m42. So my car does not have individual wiring coming into each coil pack. Just one big wire and connector.
