Gonna have a new ti soon!

And not because I'm buying another one.

This thing just keeps having parts dying. I got my intake boot, PCV valve, knock sensor, injector o-rings, and fuel rail o-ring today. Tossed the boot and PCV on and now I have oil pouring out the oil filter housing and getting slung from the crank. I also noticed a new noise, the disa valve is making some interesting noise at idle. And I also got a cam sensor circuit code too! Guess I'm making a trip down to Tischer tomorrow morning to get some more parts!

On the bright side, it runs MUCH better now. The idle is nice and smooth. With the new rear spring it rides a lot better. No more unpredictable rear wallowing. And, even with replacing all of this stuff- Still under 2K invested, including the $100 purchase price.


So far I've replaced the motor, rear subframe/control arm bushings, front brakes, rear springs, window sliders, intake boot, all of the vacuum lines, the ENTIRE cooling system, tires, rear main seal, intake gasket, diff fluid, fuel filter+ rubber lines, power steering flush...And some more stuff I am forgetting. I have to admit it's an easy car to work on. And the parts prices aren't too bad.

At first I thought you were buying another Ti. Man sounds like its giving you a lot of problems. But I guess that's what happens when cars get older things break and you have pay to get new parts. Live and learn I guess

That was the idea !

It's being a pain, though it's a 14 year old neglected car. And when everything is said and done it's still a hundred dollar ti. And I will know another car inside and out.

I'm not too upset about working on it. I like the car and will do what it takes to get it right. Still way cheaper than buying a used one and then wondering about the history of the car.

Check the connectors to the battery, did the dash lights come on?

yeah, battery and all the lights work fine, cranks like crazy but will not start. No fuel, no spark. Swapped the cam sensor, but I have no clue if the spare one I had is any good. Thinking about the crank sensor now, I have a spare....

How is the starter?

It's the crank sensor. I swapped it with a spare and it fired right up. I kinda figured thats what it was-especially after some searching here. Going to replace the cam and crank sensors tomorrow morning.

Damn sensors are hard to find. Called every BMW dealer in a 60 mile radius. Two had the cam sensor, most had none. Checked every parts place too. Finally gave up and put the order in to getbmwparts.com and got the order update that the crank sensor is in stock... Waiting for a reply to do a local pickup and get this damn car moving again.

How much did those sensors end up running you?

92 and change each... from getbmwparts.com. I was quoted 116(msrp) at most dealers, and 127 at one...

I thought about replacing both of those while I have mine apart, my parts guy talked me out of it. Said too pricey to swap without failing? We all know what is going to happen when it is all back together...
