Default Door Lock button

It seems like some of you guys have a door lock button above your drivers side window button. (Maybe I am just seeing things) I don't have anything like this in my 95 318ti The only way I have found to lock the doors while I am inside the car is by pressing the pin on the door. I have a blank plate infront of the window button, but it is not populated. Is the wiring existing for me to put in this button?

Thanks.

Yea we have had a discussion about this before. I forget but i think its after 96 when BMW started putting the lock switch by the drivers side. I'm not sure i forget but i think thats what we got in the end.

Mine doesn't do that for some reason. If i want to lock my doors I have to manually push the pin in.

Do I have the wiring harness for it? If I don't I am going to build my own harness to tap into existing lines when I get the opportunity...

I don't think you do, I've got a 95 too and I've had my center console apart, I don't see any loose connectors that would hook into a switch

The central locking switch has its own input to the ZKE (central module). The interesting question is which ZKE units support it. www.realoem.com give the same part number for an early- and late-model 318ti. Replacing the ZKE with a later or factory-updated unit would be a perhaps expensive way to add a working button. Perhaps some ZKE's built before 9/95 already had the supporting hardware/firmware?

Lame, just looked i guess i don't have the cutout for a central lock button. I will have to see what I can come up with.
