Default M50 with 97,000 with leaky head

Curious...i have limited mechanic experience but like the idea of possible fixing this and doing a swap with my m44. Should i stay away from this and source out one with no problems. The engine is relativily cheap.

How serious are you about this? and how much money do you have to spend?

A bad head gasket means you need to do a complete rebuild from the head gasket on up. That is not easy and takes hours. If you make a mistake with anything, you will wreck the motor. You will need some special tools for the timing chain. If you do it correctly, the motor should last you awhile.

The swap into the 318ti is also tricky. Just pulling the m44 motor takes hours, but i never experienced putting one back in. You can't just put the motor in, you will need a matching DME for the motor, wire harness, and lots of time.

since your car is not a 95, you will not pass emissions for many areas. If your region does emissions, you might be building a car that will never pass and will never be street legal. You will need to look into that if you have not already done so.
