Since I had the after sound deadening pictures above, I'll post the after cleaing, primer, and paint pictures here for comparison. I probably need to spend a little bit of time and complete respray a few sections where there was original white paint. It is pretty faded and groungy looking in a few spots compared to the fresh alpine white. I was really looking for something to just cover up the grey, but I think it is going to look much better inside once everything is done now compared to what the paint did look like.

back from the dead...
Just got mine off the scales;
2354 lbs
Car is pretty much gutted, S50, roll bar installed, 18x10s with 285s, lots of aero stuff. There's more, but it's all nickle-dime stuff.
Considering the car makes about 260hp at the wheels, it should be a fun season.

out
Dan

did you ever look into the lightweight battery? I saw you talking about it. I run an odyessy 925 in my street cars.. never any issues in starting either the BMW or the saab up.

I am also going to pull the aircon out of my car for less weight. Even on a street car, I never use it.. and if I want an air conditioned car (or my passengers do, I have a turbocharged saab to keep them happy) I imagine both the weight and how far fowards it is will be a big help

Odyssey PC680 battery, air cond and heater core gone, doors skinned; the whole bit. I'll post pics when I'm more ambitious.

How much fuel did you have in the car?

I'm down to about 2400 right now. Still have the air conditioning, the door cards, all original glass.

I ended up pulling out all of the alarm wiring, horns, passenger side air bag support bar, the entire glove box(replaced with an aluminum panel) and also got a lightweight battery.

I went with a deka etx14, it was badged as a "big crank" or something like that from advanced auto parts. Cost 64$, much cheaper than the same exact battery branded as a Braille, and it weighs in at like 13 pounds.

I've got some maintenance work I have to do before my next track event and I'm thinking about having the AC system drained of refridgerant and pull the entire system. Haven't decided yet..

Also, I should be getting some Kosie K1s in 17x8.5 size which will drop me about 20 pounds total in unsprung weight. My current rims are boat anchors at just over 20 pounds each.

I had about 1/2 tank. Stupid roll bar weighs 75lbs, rear wing is about 10, splitter is just under 20. I also have about 90 extra pounds of iron under the hood.
Mo- your car could be under 2200 when your done...sick!

Yeah, it was flat at 2500 when I was at Roebling Rd in Georgia, they have 4 wheel scales at the track there... That was with 3/4 tank of gas, I figure like 90 pounds of gas at least.. So 2410 without fuel, and I've easily lost 75 pounds since then..

I have no clue what the roll bar in my car weighs, but I also have two seats and two sets of 6 points. I'm sure the passenger seat, floor mounts, side mounts, and harnesses probably weight at least 40 pounds. I instruct with PCA, PBOC, and CHIN now, so I like having the passenger seat so I can take my students out for ride alongs.

I also had them really beef up the floor pan where the sub straps attach to the car as opposed to just using a 4x4 plate and washers bolted through the sheet metal. That probably adds a little bit of weight, but it still can lose a lot.

I still have the vast majority of the under car heat panels as well, everything around the cat and the transmission is still on the car. I've only removed the exhaust heat shield from the back of the car. If I remove the cat and put in a resonator that should be good for 10-15 pounds as well.

I need to figure out how to safely remove things like the bumper reinforcements and really need to spend more time going through the wiring in the car, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Do you tow your car to events? What are you doing for windows when towing?

I too have a passenger seat; went with an Ultrashield 15" and I fabbed up a floor mount. It came in just under 25lbs...made a seat-back brace and camera mount, too.

I have a Ground Control E36 M front sway bar on the way this week, that might add a pound or two, we'll see. One other tidbit I found amazing - 18x10 LTWs with 285/30 V710s weigh 7lbs A PIECE less than my 17x8 Team Dynamics with 255/40 RE01-Rs...49lbs vs 42lbs.

Got the fender roller going this weekend, too. The 18x10s have more than enough room in the rear...I'll probably end up running a smallish spacer back there for the hell of it. Honestly, there's room for 315s. The front is another story. Et 43 is way too much offset, so I have some bolt-on 25mm spacers from Option on the way. I mocked everything up with 2 12mm spacers stacked up. That provided 3-4mm clearance between tire and coilover. Looks badass, too.

I had all intentions of towing to events but I've recently taken a 10% pay cut ON TOP of 32 hr work weeks...renting/buying a trailer and installing tow provisions on the x5 was first on the budget cuts. I'll whip up some sort of removable strap or tray to hold the windows up if it rains. Or it could just not rain

I bought a truck to tow with, and haven't towed the car once yet. Really don't have the ability to store a trailer at my house, and the Florida real estate market is not somewhere where you want to be trying to sell a house right now... I think I may end up renting a u-haul trailer or finding one that I can borrow so I can tow to events after I gut the AC system.

I'm running 225 45 17 Dunlop Z1s right now and they are a few pounds heavier than the 235 40 17 Z1s. I also think the 235 40 17 R888's are lighter than the Z1s I'm running right now by about 3 pounds. I think r-comps are usually lighter, although I've not done enough research to know if that is always the case.

Since I don't have the power that you have, losing weight on my wheels/tires should make a huge difference.

So 245x45x17 dunlop z1 starspecs on Kosei k1's, 17x8.5 40et, will rub on the back tires with TcKline regular(tall) rear springs... The car looks like it is jacked up on these tires, they are huge... I bought the rims thinking the weels were used up, but they just need to be flipper to the other side because of negative camber wear. Bonus! Got the rear arches rolled today after work.

The z1s are getting pulled off on Saturday for a set of R888's. Lost something like 5 or 6 pounds of rotational weight on each tires. The 245x45 wheel/tire combo is significantly lighter than the AT wheels I have with a 225x45 Z1s.

AC system is getting drained of refrigerant tomorrow, I'll at least get the stuff out of the engine compartment before the weekend.

Yeah, it was way to tall. Those got pulled off and the 235x40x17 R888s went on Saturday night. My god, what a difference... I wish somebody would have taken a picture of me as I came out of the car first thing Sunday morning.. I had the biggest grin on my face..
