The Piston Coat product made a temperature difference on outer skin of Cerakote™ coated pipe as compared to bare metal pipe 48*F temp DROP at 572*F. And more relatively it was a 81*F drop at 1700*F.
The Black Velvet dropped the temps 91*F at 1700*F.
After the coatings were heated and tested for temp drops, they were then tested again for adhesion and hardness. The Piston Coat rated Hardness ASTM D3363 @ 9h and Black Velvet (ceramic coat) 7h. This translates to the coating will be far less prone to failure from stretch cracks which happens when the piston expands faster/ slower than the coating.
Both Piston Coat and Black Velvet had the highest rating against all common chemicals such as MEK, Acetone, Paint Stripper, Bake Cleaner, Grafitti Remover and so on... The test showed that even after a 24 immersion in these chemicals they passed.
I do the stuff here at my shop. I have a medical grade oven (Lindeberg/ Blue) controlled by a PLC that can reach the proper temps. Its programmable to ramp up the temps and cool back down so the proper cure schedule is fully automated. My blast cabinet is filled with 100 grit aluminum oxide for ideal prep and I have full access to any chemical (my day job = industrial coating specalist).
My prices are half or better than SwainTech. Plus my turn around time is immediate. You will wait for weeks with them.
