Default rear third stop light

whats up guys, i have a problem with the rear top break light.. the long break bar thats on the hatch door.. seems like one of the bulbs in the middle is no longer working so id have to replace it so it doesnt look so odd cause the rest are working.. my questions is that if i have to buy a whole new light or do i just buy a bulb or fuse? how do i take of the cover ? it seems glued

They are seperate bulbs. The info is in your owner's manual if you still have one.

The cover pulls off, but is very tight. I felt like I was going to break mine the first time. There are three clips holding it in place. Pull straight away from the glass.

The bulbs are in their own twist-off holders. Twist them 90 degrees and pull them out. You can then pull the bulbs out of their holders. Not sure which number bulbs they are at the moment.

No big deal

Here's the back side of the cover when off. You can see the three metal clips.


And the light assembly with the cover off.


The individual bulbs sockets. Twist 90 degrees to remove.


What comes out:


The bulb is just friction fit in the black holder so just pull straight out:

Don't mean to hijack this thread. but Its relevant.
My Third brake light does not work, Iv replaced all the bulbs, Is it possible the wiring or circuit is bad?

Yes. Sheet 6325-0.00 of the BMW E36/5 (Compact) ETM shows all the connections and colors to help trace out the circuit and find the cause.
