Posts: 3,156 | There are several companies offering lightweight flywheel and clutch kits. Since you have to go in there, I'd suggest changing to the lighter flywheel for slightly better acceleration. | | | 03-11-2006, 07:01 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Rimini, Italy (Europe) Posts: 73 | yes, but are all in usa... in europe this mod isn't most popular! but there are many advantage to make this mod??? __________________ I'am italian! | | | 03-11-2006, 07:06 PM | #4 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | The better acceleration is worth it. It's like dropping a couple hundred pounds from the car- it gets up to speed faster. You will not gain any horsepower or torque from this mod, but the redline arrives faster. For the labor price you will pay (or labor you will do yourself), it is worth it in my opinion even if you have to have a kit shipped over from the US. You won't likely be back in there for a few years at least, so why not take care of it all at once? I'd also suggest an oil change for the transmission as well as a new set of seals for the transmission. Perhaps, even a short shift kit. I personally prefer to save a bit more money and do as much as I can while 'in the area', as I have learned it is far more expensive to go back in there and do it again later. | | | 03-15-2006, 03:28 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Rimini, Italy (Europe) Posts: 73 | thanks, jim, short shift kit is good! in europe we use a M3 E36 3200 original leverage (30 $) for cluch, what is the component to buy for make this mod??? do you have a bmw etk code??? thanks! __________________ I'am italian! | | | 03-15-2006, 04:06 PM | #6 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | I believe UUC offers the light flywheel as well as Rogue Engineering- someone chime in here who has one for the ti. Several companies sell the flywheels, but most are for the 3.0/3.2 engine. make some calls and you will have your answer. A search of tuners throughout Europe may find you one locally... I have one with the 3.2l engine; I believe it to be the same part for both engines, but I may be wrong. | | | 03-15-2006, 04:18 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Rimini, Italy (Europe) Posts: 73 | ok, thanks! __________________ I'am italian! | | | 03-24-2006, 06:10 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 160 | I have the UUC Stage 2 kit with a 1991-1993 M5 Clutch kit. It feels great and has little "chatter" (noise). Please understand though, I recomend any Aftermarket Flywheel with any Presure Plate be blanced before install. I am one of the few people who got a poorly balanced BMW Factory (Sachs) Pressure Plate and it cost me more money to remove the Trany and get it sorted. I will have a full Posting about this soon. Watch for it if you wish to know what can go wrong. Best to you. Please also note that the Factory Dual-Mass Flywheel is Horrible!!! My 95 had the Dual-mass. If you are only looking to get a lighter flywheel, there may be a "Fidanza" for an E30 318 that might fit. They are cheap... check E-bay. Your Factory setup weights less then the Dual-Mass anyway so some kits might not help that much. Best to you. cossieturbo | | | 04-05-2006, 11:04 PM | #12 | Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Rimini, Italy (Europe) Posts: 73 | hello cossie, you have reason! my flywheel is dual-mass i have controlled on my etk... if i use the fidanza flywhell for 318i 90-95 i must use the M3 clutch!!!!! __________________ I'am italian! | | | 04-10-2006, 02:59 AM | #13 | Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Mullica Hill NJ Posts: 32 | how do i know if i have the dual mass flywheel? __________________ Yep im the a$$hole, the a$$hole that drives a bimmer | | | 04-10-2006, 04:34 AM | #14 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | all cars with air con have the dual mass flywheel (which i believe is all the ti's brought into the US). __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
