Default 1997 318ti M-Sport - Real Nice

Update: SOLD

For sale here is my 318ti M-Sport BLK/BLK. Purchased from a fellow 'org member in 2007. Original sale listing is here for reference.

I have owned the vehicle since 8/2007. I have performed meticulous maintenance on this vehicle, replacing just about every nut, bolt, clip, bulb, etc. when needed.

Modifications are too many to list, so please refer to my exhaustive documentation available here.

Major work is as follows:

Aggressive suspension tore through the shock towers due to missing M3 strut mount reinforcements. Damaged towers were repaired using 1/4" steel, then bolstered with a custom tubular strut bar, making it arguably one of the stiffest E36 front ends around.

At the same time the suspension repair was taking place, I swapped in a lower mileage M44 - it had 66K on the clock when it went in. Current mileage would be about 81K.

Current condition is as follows:

Interior - 9.5/10 - drivers side bolster has enough wear to warrant re-dye, but is one of the nicest non-mint examples I have seen. Everything else interior-wise is absolutely beautiful.

Exterior - 7/10 - Car could use a repaint. Conservatively, the drivers door and left front quarterpanel. For show quality, paint the whole thing. there is a section on the driver's door B-pillar which was repaired following a breakin, and is currently in primer to prevent rust.

Highlights:

- Two sets of wheels (Kosei K1R, Apex ARC-8), both with essentially new
- Continental tires
- Rare roof rack
- Rare mud flaps
- Track ready suspension
- E46 330i Brakes
- Euro M-tech steering wheel (brand new)
- Low miles engine and transmission, essentially new clutch

Needs:
- I am including a set of front wheel hubs/bearings. There is a slight vibration between 50-60 miles an hour when the suspension is cold.
- One of the rear shocks is weeping fluid. Works fine, but should be considered on the "watch list"
- Hatch glass is scratched a bit, not noticeable when driving or from 10 feet away.
- Tinting was bubbling on hatch, so I removed it, currently only the rear side windows are tinted.
- Heater control light bulb is out, I ordered the wrong replacement unfortunately, don't have one on hand.

More pictures:

I am an honest seller, and this is a fine example of the 318ti. It could be turned into either a pristine road car, or a competitive tracker. Your choice.

Price is $8500 including everything listed. Let's talk.

Oh, I almost forgot: MUDFLAPS! yuss.

cheers, tbw

New Bosch O2 Sensors front and rear, new Bosch Platinum +4 plugs, freshly cleaned MAF. Going to replace front wheel bearings, as I have identified the steering shimmy as coming from the front right wheel.

Car is also going in for a drivers side door and front quarter panel re-spray due to the clearcoat delamination. I may also respray the rear bumper, it had a sloppy touch up job from parking lot contact.

Car is going to look REAL NICE when done, I'm asking $7500 now with all the bells and whistles. That's two sets of rims with good tires, keep in mind.

Oh - Infinity Basslink blew up and has been removed. Amp caught fire! Crazy. Fortunately damage was contained to unit interior only.

Upcoming maintenance for this vehicle will be:

Vacuum lines need replacing under intake, they are starting to show cracks. One of the intake boots is starting to show cracks too. Valve cover gasket should be done, as I noticed the beginnings of oil in the spark plug wells. 10,000 miles before this service is absolutely necessary.

Fuel mileage expected to have gone way up since replacement of O2 sensors. Was getting 24 MPG with aggressive driving. 30MPG highway. Will post numbers once I go through this tank of gas.

Again, $7500 for this well sorted ti.

Vehicle passed smog with flying colors - 15MPH NOX threshold 450, measured 200!

Might be sending car in for paint to address clearcoat peeling issue and do some touchups. Price may come back up a bit after this happens. Sticking firm to the numbers, if you consider the value of parts and service which have gone into maintaining this vehicle, it's a really good deal.

Okay we're at $6500 now, and I could be flexible - I can switch the stock steering wheel back in and not include the roof rack if you're looking to save $$. I need to sell the car while the smog cert is valid.

I have a $250 gift card to a local auto spa which is good for paint if you don't like delaminating clearcoat. I was holding off on sending it in for paint in case the new owner wants to respray the whole thing instead of select panels.

drop me a line! Lots of spare parts included!

Price is now $5500 without the M-tech II steering wheel.

Front wheel bearings changed out, still has steering wheel vibration -- will need new ball joints.

Also noticed some weeping fluid from thermostat housing.
