Exclamation I found one car with the title I don't understand

The car I found and ran a carfax and stayed the car it had a EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS TITLE ISSUED (CARFAX AdvisorTM
An EML title is issued when the owner discloses an odometer rollover to a DMV. Rollovers occur on vehicles with 5-digit odometers that go from 99,999 to 00,000 every 100,000 miles) Don't all the 1998 318ti have 6-digit odometer? I don't understand hows this car been issued this title? Is it a problem buying this car? someone please help!!!

I think that simply means the odo reading is not known to be accurate.
If you ran a carfax on my car it should say the same thing because the instrument cluster was replaced and started off as zero.

Not unless you know the previous owner.
For instance on my title it simply says Not Actual Mileage.
If the previous owner took the car to BMW dealers for service you may be able to piece together a history. I would not necessarily shy away from a car with a questionable odo but the price should reflect that condition. I think it's harder to sell a car with that strike against it. With my car I knew the previous owner for 3 years.

The car is 1998 showing 78k miles, automatic trans., leather seats, heated seats, sunroof, 15 inch alloy, looks great inside. Problem is the title (with odo problem), central locking system don't work, due to only have the velet key, I can't open the hatch, the radio don't work need code input, and alot of small little paint chips at the front hood (only can see them when its real close), I put some money to hold the car, and they are selling at $7800 included T&T&T, what you think???

So right off the bat you need to buy keys.
I would expect the owner to at least supply 2 full keys with it.

I'd want an explanation about the odo.

Any service history?

78000 on THIS odo. Who knows what the real mileage is?

if the car was sold locally (likely) i would track down the closest BMW dealer and see if they have records for the VIN.

05/08/2003 61,876 Auto Auction Sold at auction

I wonder what happened after the car was sold to affect the mileage.

I don't trust cars sold at auction.
Is this from a BMW dealer or a used car lot?

yeah, this is definately a no no... if you're looking for a 318ti... theres definately better out there... 7800 is too much for that car anyway from what it sounds like... its loaded and all that true enough, but it sounds like theres too many problems to make it worth the risk. if you wait, the right car will come to you... i got my 97 318ti black, with the 97 motorsport package, with 120k miles on it in extremely good condition for the milage for only $3500. just wait for the right one
