Well must've been going a little to fast for the turn plus the road was a little damp. As i make the turn it feels like the tires were slipping, next thing you know my back end starts to whip around and i'm like o shiznack. Everything was kind of in slow-mo and i don't even remember what i did to correct it just normal instincts i guess. I was going probally inbetween 50-60mph(a little to fast) when i turned into the exit and the whole car whipped around tried correcting it and car turned the other way, turned it again and then the next thing i know it was fine. The driver behind must've thought i was crazy. I seriously thought i was going to roll my car over. That was probally the dumbest thing i've done in this car. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 05-24-2005, 04:31 PM | #2 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | good work (not hitting anything or anyone)! did you have to change your shorts? __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 05-24-2005, 04:33 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: SoCal Posts: 61 | Quote: Originally Posted by Tyler So i'm driving to work this morning up 295N in RI and i take my usual exit. It's not something that i'm gonna do again on a public road, not like i meant to do it. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 05-24-2005, 04:58 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Concord Posts: 326 | Glad your ok and obviously the ti __________________ 1998 318TI DASC•Custom Black Leather Interior w/ Silver Inserts•AC Schnizter:Pedals/Shift Knob/E-Brake Handle•Aluminum Gauge Faces•Alpine Speakers/Tweeters•Custom False Floor System•K&N Filter•Hi-Flow Z3/ti 97’•M3 Clutch•Lightweight Flywheel•Turner Motorsports SSK•H&R Race Springs•Racing Dynamics:Front Strut Brace/Sway Bar/Shocks/Bodykit/Rear Spoiler•Brembo Cross-Drilled Rotors•Supersprint Exhaust•19” Seducer Wheels•M3 Mirrors•Clear Corner Lights/Side Markers•Euro Taillights•DZUZ Fastened•3.73 LSD | | | 05-25-2005, 12:37 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Manhattan Kansas Posts: 242 | I did the same thing, with my old TI only I rolled it down a ravine. As the rear slides out your instinct is to apply brakes. This makes it worse by making the rear even lighter and around you go. My guess is Tyler did not jump off the gas and maintained control by looking where he wanted to guy. If that was not the case he was damn lucky. Many a ti has lost it on a ramp in the rain. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-25-2005, 03:38 AM | #9 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti It's all about balancing the car. The exit was on a slight decline and it wasn't really raining at the moment but the ground was wet. As soon as i got into the turn i knew something was gonna happen,i could feel the tires slipping. Thats when the rear started to swing on me,luckily i got control of it and came out of it in 1piece. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 05-25-2005, 03:46 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by Tyler I didn't apply the brakes at all untill i got control of it. | That is what saved you. All you need to do to correct is give a little jab on the steering wheel in the same driction the tail is going. I.E. if you are making a hard left and the tail steps out right a bit, a quick jab to right and perhaps some slight pressure to the gas (circumstances apply) will work it all out for you. Do not hit the brakes! This will result in spinning you all the way around. Im lucky ive got Sear Point/Infineon 15 minutes a way, racing there has taught me so much. Congrats on taming your folly. | | | 05-25-2005, 04:56 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Northern New Jersey Posts: 395 | I was with my friend Dawn one time, and we were on our way back from eating somewhere or another, there were 4 people in her car, i was in the back. We were on Rt. 3 in NJ getting off the onramp to Rt. 21. She was going normal speed for the ramp, maybe a tad too fast... but it was raining... Needless to say, with her DODGE NEON, she jammed the brakes when she started sliding, went right up a curb, broke a rim, cracked her axle, and ripped her exhaust off. The car was totaled. The strangest part... I joke around a lot when other people are driving, i'm kind of like a Dick back seat driver, but only to bust balls. When we were coming to the turn, before destruction was imminent, I uttered, "Oh my god, We're gonna die!" I didn't say it loudly or distracting, and she didn't even know I said it, but the other 2 in the car with us kinda just looked at me afterwards like whats up with this kid... Her dad's a mechanic and he took care of it, and when we told dawn about what I said, she was like, well IF I HEARD IT I MIGHT NOT HAVE CRASHED> Sure dawn, sure. Also, in the rain on Rt. 17 in NJ, i was going under an overpass and there was this big puddle, and i just so happened to be switching lanes, so my ti hydroplaned and I did a full 720 on the highway. THANK GOD there were no other cars on the road. | | | 05-25-2005, 02:49 PM | #13 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | So this morning when i was going to work i payed attention to the offramp and didn't even notice the guardrail on the right which at onepoint i was heading straight for. I took the exit real slow just to look at what could've happend to me. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 05-25-2005, 03:24 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | ive hydroplaned a few times...and when it snows, god knows im a bad driver (or at least i take advantage of low friction)...but ive never lost control of the vehicle....because i never apply brakes...if someone asked me what to do in a sliding situation, i wouldnt really know what to say, but everytime im in one, its my normal instinct and i end up dandy! __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 05-25-2005, 03:43 PM | #15 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by robcarync ive hydroplaned a few times...and when it snows, god knows im a bad driver (or at least i take advantage of low friction)...but ive never lost control of the vehicle....because i never apply brakes...if someone asked me what to do in a sliding situation, i wouldnt really know what to say, but everytime im in one, its my normal instinct and i end up dandy! | I didn't hrdroplane at all, the ground was wet and i took the exit to fast and and turned into it too hard. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
