I haven't done anything to the car to make it come on. I alredy checked my oil, coolant, mass airflow sensor and any other common thing that I could think of. Could this be because it's time for a service? If so, does any one know the easy way to reset the computer without the tool? | | | 08-04-2005, 05:44 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: North Saint Paul, MN Posts: 606 | Mine was set off by an o2 Sensor/bad cat. So I just replaced everything. It's probably just the easiest to go to a shop and have them check it out. Sometimes the vacuum (or non vacuum in this case) inside the gas tank triggers a sensor to make the check engine light to come on. Happened once before. If that checks out, check O2 sensors. __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 08-04-2005, 09:30 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | Mine went off a month ago for the first time. When I had the codes checked at the dealership, it was for two reasons, one was the gas cap was not tight. It may be as simple as that, but you still need to somehow reset the code. But thanks fellows (maybe fellowettes) for the advice. I'll check it out in the morning. It's already almost midnight here. | | | 09-11-2005, 11:58 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: SoCal Posts: 144 | yesterday i did my brake pads all around and put in some new sparkplugs, drove around plenty with no problems, CEL lit up this afternoon when i started my car. anyone in sandiego have a code reader? __________________ known by most, hated by many, adored by the rest | | | 09-23-2005, 07:11 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: IDAHO Posts: 134 | mine went off yestreday, went to autozone for thier FREE READING. and it was my 02 sensor, my car has 105,500 miles s its about time, no? | | | 09-24-2005, 12:20 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: SoCal Posts: 144 | mine went out the next day, then came on again just the other night, the next day off. Personally I wouldn't worry until it's a flashing. Of course make sure you know what is setting the light off right away. I drove with a bad cat/O2 Sensor for over a year and the ride is fine.....I think jk lol __________________ '96 Alaska Blue ti w/ Supersprint cat-back exhaust...Dinan CAI & Chip...Eibach Pro-Kit Springs...Bilstein Sport shocks...BavAuto camber kit...Brembo d/s rotors...UUC SSK...Centerforce Dual Friction clutch...TMS 9lb flywheel...18 inch OZ Rims...Carbon-Fiber dash/gauge bezel...Momo Shift Knob...Indiglo gauges...Schroth Harness...ZKW's/ProLumen 6k HID...Predator Chromiums http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...urowerksig.jpg | | | 01-10-2006, 10:23 PM | #11 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Posts: 9 | CEL one follow up on this. If it is the gas cap (which I'm sure it was-cause it was loose) will the light reset or do you need to get that done at a garage? | | | 01-10-2006, 10:56 PM | #12 | Member Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Calgary, Alberta Posts: 89 | Spend Money Light CEL I just spent too much money having the spend money light (CEL) resolved. There were 2 problems, one was the cam position sensor and the second was a failed secondary air pump. I have noticed if you adjust the fuel cap after you fill up the tank the light usually goes out, and will stay off if the cap is secure. The code has not been reset, but the light is off. The CEL deals mostly with emissions related items, but can affect the overall performance of the car, eventually. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
