Less from body roll in hard turns. Should anyone looking to improve handling without all the bells and whistles......and the high price....this is the ticket. I also recently replaced my 15" alloys to E46 16", I think type 45 or 54 w/225 50 16s. X-Brace highly recommended. __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 05-27-2005, 04:29 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: NW of Chicago Posts: 111 | Cool! It's one of the few mods that is relatively inexpensive and has a significant affect on handling. I'm glad I made that upgrade. __________________ moku 1996 318ti Cali Top w/ Downing/Atlanta Supercharger 2003 M3 w/ CSL trunk, splitters, & diffuser | | | 05-27-2005, 06:04 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | how much is an x-brace? just curious... __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 05-27-2005, 06:11 PM | #5 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | if memory serves, they're around $125. hit e-bay, bimmerbum (who posts on the yahoo forums, btw) always has them for sale on there. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 05-27-2005, 06:20 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | I wish I had time and tools to do it myself, but it cost me only $150 to have a shop, I frequent, to install the X-Brace. As I understand, the difficult part is putting in the nutserts. Newer E36s are supposed to already have the nutserts, so you may not have to worry about it. __________________ moku 1996 318ti Cali Top w/ Downing/Atlanta Supercharger 2003 M3 w/ CSL trunk, splitters, & diffuser | | | 06-10-2005, 05:26 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: NW of Chicago Posts: 111 | Quote: Originally Posted by moku I had my installed at my shop, but the install looks pretty straighforward. Yeah, those nutserts are pain in the ass but the whole installation was fairly easy. Took me 45 minutes to deal with the nutserts and 5 minutes to do everything else. Fairly cheap mod for the greatest gain. The car feels so solid now, I recommended this mod to everyone. It should be the very first mod on everyone's car. | | | 06-17-2005, 04:55 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | I just ordered mine today from PacificBMW. $99.55 before shipping. $117.55 w/ shipping. Nutserts are a one-piece design consisting of a nut portion and a sleeve portion. A rotating tool mandrel, which is inserted into the threads from the sleeve side, causes a separation at the grooved break area, drawing the nut portion into the sleeve. As the nut portion pulls-up inside the sleeve, the sleeve is expanded, exerting a powerful 360 degree swage fit against the parent material. This expansion also causes the axial knurl, which is under the flange, to bite into the side of the hole, while the placing tool nose rolls the flange over, causing an additional locking against the top edge of the hole - a double-locking effect to insure superior torque-out resistance . | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
